The Horn!
#1
Still relativley new to the site so dont start slagging if youve had this B4.
The only thing that devastates me about my pride and joy, and i mean really rips me up and gets me a very hard time from friends and family, is the horn. Even so much so that my friends have now christened me "peep peep" God it sounds like something from a chitty chitty bang bang movie. Its even got to the stage that when road rage kicks in (cannot beat a bit of road rage)I get laughed at by geriatrics and you know, those people who, in general, cant drive!
The step from the Calibra Turbo has been nothing but a pleasant experience, but boy could the old Calibra put the sheeites up folk when they were'nt concentrating on the road.
please help. Is a new horn easy to fit, where do the best deals and how much are we looking at?
The Classic WRX sooped up Scoob just does not deserve a horn like that.
thanks in advance for your help, suggestions.

I had a horn on my 106 gti that i saved when I got me Scoob. Its off a Rover 200/400/800, and is a dual tone, very loud and sounds pretty good. Got it from the scrappers for £5.00! The only problem is I can't fit it to the Scoob 'cos there isn't enough room!
If any knows where to fit it I'd appreciate it!!

The horn on the "classic" is just behind the front grille IRC. Shouldn't be too difficult to replace with a more beefier sounding one. Know what you mean though, if its any consolation my MY02 sounds the same as my MY99 did, ie pathetic

Mum and Dad are in North Shields. They used to live next to the marina and had lunch a few times in the Earl of Zetland.
Still in North Shields near to Morrisons. I really like it down there and was rather close to moving down but decided to stay in Scotland. Didn't quite fancy my we boy have a geordie accent
To be honest I have never heard a scooby horn!!! I really need to hear it now!

He was so consumed with 'The Horn' he wrote letters to Thatcher, Callaghan and the BBC
Happy days.

Can you still get Dukes of Hazzard horns??
Last time I heard one was about 15 years ago when someone locally had one on their Orange Cortina to accompany the Southern flag on the roof and 03 stickers on the doors!!!
Ah, we miss 'em!!

Hi all,
I was brought up in North Shields (Lawson Street and Hawkey's Lane.)
I've got a MY02 STi and the horn is pathetic. When I get round to it I shall fit air horns.
There is one school of thought that would say that people are supposed to hear the exhaust note before anything else!
All the best,
Korky

You can still get "Dukes of Hazzard" style horns but it is illegal to fit them to cars built after a certain year - can't remember off the top of my head, around 1974 or something. Anything after that and you're stuck with two tone I'm afraid
Now, whats the worst job you ever had

I think the best option is to use Hella Twin Supertones:
http://www.remarcable.net/misc/legacy_outback/mods/hella/supertones.html
They are said to be quite loud as stock replacements, and even louder if you fit the relay which comes with them. This site seems down right now, but there was a diagram for Subaru installation here:
http://www.tikinet.com/impreza/hella.pdf
I hope this comes back up, as it will likely be my first and only upgrade to the STi when it comes to Canada...

I fitted the Ring dual-tone electro horns that you can buy from Halfords. Much better than stock, and I prefer them to the sound of air horns. These are actually fitted as factory to a lot of European cars (made by FIAMM I think).
Piece of **** to fit - the Impreza actually has dual tone horn as standard, so you can just replace each of the new horns in the same locations as the old ones without needing to wire in relays etc. One is behind the front grille as said before, the other is just in front of the battery. It's a bit of a tight squeeze because the new ones are a bit thicker than the old, but they do go in.
Only other thing is that you have to run a wire to ground for the new horns because they have a ground terminal whereas the OE ones just ground through the mounting bolt. Plenty of grounding points to use though so no probs.

Jon - EVO,
What happened to your pride & Jo??
I had an Impreza two years ago, had it a week and some little torags done me big time. Burgled-Keys-car-contents of house-gone-never to be seen again!! The car hit the stinger at over 120mph and still got away from the local constabulary!
Anyway now ive got a 97 classic WRX. 17" Gold Speedlines like yours, HKS induction kit and extra loud dump v/v. Decatted ss exhaust, manual turbo tweek, kicks out 300+ bhp (at the minuet). Mica blue. What you doing round my way?
