What are peoples views on this, I saw a couple of Scooby`s coming towards me with the spots on and they didnt dazzle at all.
My McRAE main lights arent the brightest in the world I`d like to use the spots to gain better visability.
Has anyone been pulled driving with the spots on??

I personally hate it and I'd be even more pi$$ed off at a fellow Scooby driver with them on.
The Police will give you a spot fine if you're caught driving with fogs on in clear visibility. Well thats what they're supposed to do. They fined my Mum and she honestly never noticed that she'd switched them on. That's why it pi$$es me off when everyone drives around blantantly with them on.
If you have proper driving lamps (i.e. 130w buggers), then you'll definetely dazzle oncoming traffic.
Sorry to sound off, but it's my pet peeve.
If only I had an air rifle, I'd take great pleasure switching them off for everyone

If by spots yoou mean the standard scooby driving/ fog lights then yes I have been pulled and given a caution as it is against the law to use them in normal light conditions.
With regard to using them to give a bit of extra visibility - they only really light up the curb verge and therefore in normal night time conditions at a decent speed they do not give any advantage over your main beam. If you need a better beam then invest in some better bulbs, a twin headlamp conversion or a set of Cibie type spots to replace your fog lamps.
Chris.

I hate people that drive with spots on wtf is that all about?? Set them up on a relay so they come on with main beam, not to drive about with them on in clear conditions.

the standard fogs are 55W I think, if you put any more in them your running a risk of a temperature build up in the loom !
Have to agree with Ozzy, fog lights are my pet hate.
Edited to say ( Nothin like seeing a saxo drivers face with 260W of light on it ) PIAA Rocks

First it is necessary to determine if you mean driving lights/spots or fog lights.
Fog lights are to be used as such when the conditions necessitate ie itis foggy enough and so thick there is an actual advantage from using them. They should be wire to operate with dipped beam only.
Driving lights are for long range and as such are to be wired to come on with full beam only.
Whether you will be reported for running lights not in accordancewith the above will depend on a particular officers view and may depend on what else you were doing.
Roadside DoE/MOT checks are another matter as you could break construction and use regulations depending on your set up. Without looking it up I think there is also a warning light requirement.
I do not run fog lights with dipped beam because it is inconsiderate in some circumstances, unnecessary and an unnecessary drain on the electrics. Looks a bit spiv to me but each to his own I suppose.

I just wish the filth were a little more vigilant about stopping the morons with their rear fogs on. Now that REALLY bugs me
I thought the only people stupid enough to drive with their front fogs permanently on were Peugeot and BMW drivers!

This ****s me of more than anything in the world. I beam people with PIAA's for doing this. its a sign of damned ignorance, it doesn't look good.
Worst offenders:
Women in people carriers
Saxo's
Thick people
Any Citroen
I saw a guy in a scoob with PIAA's on during the day. Even then they are blinding.
Don't be a ****, turn em off!

Which are the best bulbs to make my standard headlights brighter, When I said mine arent the brightest I meant the standard headlamps, I struggle to see on unlit carriageways. Or it could be my eyes

People keep getting fog lights & driving lights mixed up
We all know about use of foglights but driving lights, which are switched on when main beam is activated, are totally legal at any wattage
I specifically asked a police driving instructor (Dick Grimes) this on his course. As long as you are not [i]using them to dazzle (or allowing them to dazzle) another road user. Ie don't use them to sear the eyeballs of the oncoming car because he's got his fogs on
If you drive around with your main-beam + Cibie Eyeball Searer 2000W spots on during the day, or even at night with other traffic about, you will of course get nicked & rightly so.

what the **** is it with people using their foglights when its not foggy???
i have even seen some to55ers using them during the ****ing day(rear included)
anyone doing this should be dragged out of their car and publicly flogged!

Got to admit i do tend to put mine on at night!!!!
But in my defense, my main beam has very blue bulbs and can't see much (will change them when I get around to it)
This four lights at the front thing seems to be a building trend, I even saw a copper with 4 lights on his escort...

+Doc+,
You can buy the Philips Vision Plus H4 bulbs from Powerbulbs.
They give you a much brighter light than the OEM ones. £20 and you'll even get a free set of
brighter sidelight bulbs too

Front fogs coming the other way in no fog conditions get HID dip, HID Hella drive lamps and 100w main beam bulbs back
LOL at Dark Blue Mark
Puff
Mr Grimes really should know better! Bulbs are ONLY legal if they are E marked, Vision Plus are, but ALL higher wattage bulbs (100w and higher) are not E marked!

Ozzy is right. I have just fitted the philips blue vision side lights and headlight bulbs and what a real difference. The light is really white and clear.
Before fitting them I had xenon bulbs fitted (all at legal rating 55/60W) and I was surprised how much brighter the blue vision ones are, as the xenon ones are meant to be 25% brighter than halogen ones.
I thorough recommend them and I am not easily impressed.

I had the Off-side main headlight bulb go the other day (again) and was faced with a very difficult choice - do I use my Spot lights or not?
In the end I used the Spot lights mainly due to the side lights being absolutely useless in defining the side of the car.
Obviously drove straight to Halfords for a replacement bulb.

Driving lamps are always good for making sure people know they've been an idiot, had PIAA's on my MY00 could hurt your eyes in daylight Miss them on my STi7 (prodrive), though not quite enough to go to Dave TS's extremes of light fitting
