foglight conversion-Hella 1000FFunits

Got these on my '98 turbo. Light output is ace!
Prob is that you have to totally demount the lamp unit to slacken off the lamp mounting screw to move them for alignment, then remount them b4 trying for beam direction. Try that ina deserted carpark in the dark.
Anyone come up with a mod that'll allow them to be adjusted easily once fitted, AND brace them a bit to stop vibration, and the resulting strobe effect?

I have a MY 99 with Hella 1000FF pencil beam. I have added an adjustable support to the top, works fine. The support is a hose clip, cut it in the middle and drill a 3mm hole in both ends. Was used on all Rally cars in the 70'

Pete, I got mine from TSL. They told me they were official Prodrive items, new out for the MY01 cars etc but a direct fit to mine too. The wiring instructions WERE for a MY01 car, but I've been wiring rally stile lighting since 1971, so it wasn't a prob. Alignment IS though.
I've had a reply from a guy at Prodrive via SIDC, and he just said to hang in there as practice makes perfect

Lars/Alcazar,
Hi guys!
I just bought a set of Hella Rallye 1000FF (standard brackets) and spent some hours yesterday making my own custom brackets
But I am not quite sure about the wiring....
Can you help me out?
FYG, I bought a Hella wiring kit, consisting of:
Relay connected to
2pce blue cables for lamps. OK.
1pce red cable for power supply. OK.
1pce black cable for ground. OK.
1pce green cable for connecting into high beam switch loom. Where to connect this one??
Have been looking for a high beam switch but unable to find.
Thought about pulling the cable into the cabin and hook it up directly on the high beam switch, but not sure if I'll be able to locate correct point for termination. It might be a tricky one to access too?
Any advice appreciated
/Simen.

The easiest way to do this is to use a "Scotchlok" type connector, crimped onto the high beam wire feeding one of the headlights,(doesn't matter which one, whichever is nearer to your relay,)behind the headlight.
You will then get the new driving lights each time you select main beam.
For your own sake, buy some clear protectors for them.
I'd be interested to know how you overcame the vibration problem. I never did, so I sold mine, and bought Hella HID's from Scoobysport. They mount differently, and do not vibrate.
Cheers m8. Alcazar

The main beam feed wire is the yellow one. As alcazar says splice the relay trigger into the yellow wire on the back of the headlamp bulb plug. You can use either the driver or passenger side but depending on left or right hand drive the one nearest the battery normally fits with the loom best.

Thanks guys,
Fixed!
Alcazar - I have attached a string of hose clip to the top/back of the lamp housing. Enables me to adjust the lamps, and hopefully deals with the vibration probs. Haven't tested in the dark yet.
Reverting with a report when done

I had a look at that idea, it's an old one from '70's rally cars, when Super Oscars etc wouldn't stay still without it. It does make up/down adjustment easy though.
On the 1000ff Prodrive kit, I couldn't see what to fasten it to at the non-lamp end?
Also, the plastic lamp casing didn't seem very strong?

Ran the hose clip through the hole in the bumper (behind the lamp).
I bought hose clip in 'loose weight' ie a 5m long strip together with 5pce locks, for cutting to desired length.
So I can pretty much attach it anywhere on the car I'd like
Did drill a hole and attached it to the body behind the bumper though. (And coated it to prevent rust.)

Hehe. Don't ask
Well, as it is now, I have hidden the adjustment clip/lock thingy behind the bumper, so I can only access it by unclipping the plastic cover underneath the bumper. Lamp seems to stay well in place though, so it doesn't seem necessary to adjust any more.
If it turns out that a bit of adjustment is required from time to time, I'll have to turn the hose clip adjuster the other way around and place it closer to the hole in the bumper, so it can be adjusted with a screwdriver through the hole.
(Bulb replacement is a bit of a project, though. Oh well....)
