Removing stock stereo

Hi all. Got a 2002 impreza wrx wagon. Want to changr the original stereo (as it sucks) can i juat remove it and put a single din spacer in and a single din stereo? Or do i need a cage to go in?

Mate get a Double Din stereo and Use the same brackets !! Ive Got a Kenwood for £130 Sound ! In my wrx wagon . The model number of the stereo is dpx404u
