Has the car had the front screen replaced? It's likely, if it has, that the adhesive used hasn't been applied properly andf has pinholed. A decent windscreen place will be able to check, but it costs to have it repaired and no, you can't DIY.

My classic did this when I first got it , took me ages to find where the water was coming from , finally found the grommets on the the wires that come from the doors near the hinges was missing and the water was running down the wires into the car and finally into the footwell , sorted it by filling the hole with silicon and no more water .

It could also be that the heater matrix has a hole in it. Had it before on my old golf and the foot wells filled with water.

If it's that it'll smell like a dirty bird, a bit fishy inside the car.
