Marc,

I pit two layers of 5mm underlay under my carpet. It does cut out a good bit of road noise, but wouldn't expect it to be as good as proper sound proofing material.

Some say if it gets wet, it won't dry out, but I can simply lift the carpet and replace any. Afterall, it cost me next to nothing anyway.

Lifting the carpets is very easy, so it's worthwhile asking a local carpet fitter for some offcuts and giving it a try. If it's crap, just fit the proper stuff.

Last weekend i have made some sound proofing with Dynamat.
Dynamat is adhensive from one side and you can put it anywhere.
To apply the sheets you must cut it in the proper size to fit , warm it up with a hairdryer and stick it with a squezing with a wooden roller for better fit.
It took me about 6 hours to do the two doors , the floorpan and the rear sheat.
Now i have better quality sound from my sound system and the noise from the road into the cabin is much better.

Isn't this Dynamat product very expensive? And another thing; When you did the front-doors; did you remove the plastic? I'm thinking of doing something with my car aswell, but I don't know if I can take away the plastic.. Please advice.

Dynamat is expensive for what you get.

I'd recommend having a look at Barrier Mat from noisekiller accoustics - they advertise in SIDC, or looking at the group buy going on in ICE but I think you may have just missed that.

Don't take away the plastic membrane in the doors. It stops your door cards turning to mush when it rains. Packing out the back of the door cards with foam can help stop flapping, etc.

But how do you fasten the mats the doors without taking of the plastic?

Aaah, sorry, see what you mean.

The plastic is attached with a sort of sealant/sticky type stuff. Peel it off gently. Then reattach.

if you're doing the doors, you really want to do the outer skins of the doors. You'll be working through the holes in the doors to get at these. Clean off the existing sticky goo that's on the outer skin with something like meths, then dry, then apply the matting. Refit the plastic bit, then the door card, and you're laughing.

Cheers,

nick.

Okey, thanks! I'll try that.. I have one more question; I don't know how these mats works, but is it necessary to cover up the whole thing? Or would it do the trick if I place the mats where they would be easy to fit (will still leave some metal uncovered)?

You don't have to cover the whole lot, no.

Hi,
Dynamat is expensive but is the best that you can byu.
I only cover the 70% in the doors and i dont mess with the locking
system.I will try to get some photos to see what i mean.

I'd argue that Dynamat isn't the best you can buy. In my opinion, it's the most difficult to work with, the most expensive, the most smelly, the most likely to fall off in hot weather, ...

I've tried:
- Dynamat
- Dynamat super
- Scosche Accumat
- Noisekiller barrier mat

Performance wise, I'd say that the barrier mat is just as effective as dynamat super, below that then it's dynamat, then finally it's accumat. For working with the stuff, barrier mat comes first, followed by accumat, then the dynamats.

The adhesive on dynamat is the worst of any that I have tried. The mats also the most inflexible until you heat it to the point where it's difficult to hold.

I used to swear by dynamat, but there is better on the market IMHO, plus the barrier mat is quite a bit cheaper and it's equivalet to Dynamat super in that it's foil backed too.

As you can tell, I'm impressed

Nick.

Wink

I got 2no. rolls from a local motor factors/accessory shop for £7 a roll.
This was enough to do my wagon from the boot forward under the seats right up to the front bulk head but I did not do inside the doors.
The material is a thick felt and there have been no issues with water i.e. the car does not leek.
