3 weeks this one has taken me to find.

An annoying metallic click from the B pillar below the seat belt mount. I've had the trim off the B pillar, packed it with sponge, sprayed the seatbelt mounts with Silicone to no avail. Then I suddenly had an idea: perhaps its the door hinge. Sprayed the striker on the bodywork (outside and in) as well as the lock with silicone based lubricant and hey presto the clicking has gone Seems the lock/striker were resonating up the B pillar.

Yorkie, you may be a saviour!

I've had a metalic click on the O/S b-pillar on my MY01 as well, sounds like coming from the lock area, bit like a ball bearing hitting the metal somewhere...I've had door panels off, lock mechanism's out, air-bag sensors out, seat belt mechanism out, you name it - I've had it out and it still does it!!!!

There is a thread titled "£10 to whoever can fix my click" somewhere around, so you may be in the money...!!

Will let you know the results of your tip.
Cheers

Question

Yorkie, forgot to ask the details, did you spray inside the b-pillar behind the fishplate of the striker plate and what about the door hinge, did you do that as well ?

I sprayed Castrol silicone lubricating spray BEHIND the fishplate, ie on the outside of the b pillar. Also spray inside the lock on the door. The spray shoud be allowed to run down behind the fishplate. to stop if chafing on the metal b pillar.

Talking

I must be a bit thick, as I have no idea what you are talking about!

I too have this clicking, and was going to take the door interior off today? If you have a digi camera you could take some piccies. Or if you tell me what to take a pic I will uplaod them and we can discuss further.

Seems a few of us are having this.

Davyboy, if you want I will photograph the area that needs attention with the silicone spray - reply here and I'll post it ASAP.
The clicking has gone ! Done 125 hard miles today over every possible surface imperfection, camber and bump, and its as quiet as a mouse now. A real pleasure to drive; creaks and clicks really spoil the driving experience for me
I think I have nailed this one rattle on the head

This sounds interesting... I've had a similar sound for ages in my MY01. I would describe it as someone dropping a small ball bearing onto a metal plate. I've only managed to trace it to the passenger side of the car, so any pictures or info on this would be appreciated!

Cheers

Andy,

It may be the crappy polystyrene Subaru have placed behind the B pillar plastic trim. I took mine off, it was too much of a liability for me as far as creaks go It could be that !

Yorkie

Edited to say:
Maybe I should buy a German car (Ie Audi or VW) to be free from rattles and clicks, but they can be just as bad (so I'm told)

Cool

Yorkie, well impressed with your web page, most helpful mate...thanx for putting the effort in to show us the details.

This certainly seems to be an 'Achilles heal' on the MY01/02, if this fixes my rattle I shall make a point of telling the dealer and suggest he feed's back to the factory. Annoying rattles like this just should not happen and dont do the 'quality' image any good...

Nice one Yorkie - I'll be trying out your directions as soon as I can get hold of the Castrol PTFE spray - Halfords I assume?

ChrisL, not sure M8, I got mine from my brother who had it given to him during a service at his local Mazda dealer. I must say I am impressed with the stuff. I would imagine any good car spares shop should be able to source some, indeed Halfords.
