If my memory serves me correctly, they are just clipped in, but they are very tight, I thought I was going to break mine until I pulled the dash out and looked from behind and saw no other fixings

As Jon said they do pop out, I used a flat blade screwdriver with some masking tape over the end to help avoid damaging the ring. It does take a bit if force but will come out
