I am also considering this. Cannot yet afford the centre pod housing. Any chance of an explanation also.

Cheers in advance

Chris

I bought one of these on saturday for my impreza , I have cut both the end pieces by chain drilling it for some control and it appears more flexible now to mould against the a pillar . however it is still someway out and need more work. I was thinking of filling the gaps with foam or black silicone perhaps . I will get back to it next week end , once the gauge arrives .

Any suggestions you may have appreciated

so far this is what i have done:

I cut each end of the pod using a red hot scalpel (used cooker hob to heat it), when i checked it, it was a pretty good match and finish but with a few minor gaps, so this sunday i got some rubber trim - about 5mm - and glued it to the edges of the pod, it now gives a much better seal.
what i need to do now is secure the pod to the A-pillar. I'm tempted to screw it at the top and bottom, but i would prefer to not damage the A-pillar if i can help it.

any other suggestions are welcome, else im gonna screw it!

also, where have you threaded the tubing? ive gone through the gap between the trim.

Chris yes tubing and wire up betwen the trim and a pillar .

Where did you get the rubber trim from out of interest .

I thought some heavy duty silicone might hold the pod to the a- pillar, as i dont want to damage the pillar in case i remove it for sale of the car. However it might not be robust enough so suspect I will end up putting some small self tappers in at the top and bottom to secure as you have already indicated.

I can wedge the bottom of the pod in between the existing trim and the a pillar for some support but it leaves bigger gaps.

cheers

Wink

i got the rubber trim from a trade stand at a kit car show on sunday, it cost about £1.30 a metre, ive got some left (about 40 cm) i dont think its enough to do it all, but i could send what ive got left to you if you want (mail me offline), it'll do at least one side and the ends, or you could at least use it to source some more.

thought aboout using adhesive velcro, but not too sure how strong the adhesive will be, like you say i dont want any permanent damage.

Question

has anyone managed to find anything that will actually stick one yet? i've tried all sorts of stuff, from double sided tape to evo-stick. even cleaned everything off with meths first. i think it maybe lasted two days. could it be something to do with the stuff the plastic secretes (ever noticed how the impreza dash is always shiny?)
any help would be appreciated- reluctant to start drilling holes!

Simon,
The only thing I can think of that might work is the stuff called "no nails" you can get it in the likes of B+Q, it looks like a tube of silicone, I use it a lot in my job and it is strong stuff. If it works you will not be able to remove the pod without damaging it.

Hope this works,

Sandy

try halfords
i got some vecro extra strength for about £3 (its actually made by 'VELCRO')

you get 2 strips, i cut each into 2 along their length, stuck the fluffy bit to the a-pillar and the loooped bit inside the pod = so far not fallen off and no damage to pillar.

if it falls off then sod it, PLAN B, im screwing the b4stard thing on

I tried all sorts, but after it falls off so many times (the problem is the pod doasn't have enuff surface area to stick down) i screwed it on with 4 self tapers. I think my pic shows it doesn't look to bad, and its definately not gonna fall off now .

I've just brought one from GGR and it has 2 strips of Velco with it as means of fittment, so can't be that much of a crasy idea, can it?.

Si,

Demon Tweeks do the same type of holder as in my pic but it has two holes not 1 (£24.99). Give it a try!

As for the GGR pod, its a very different construction to the Demon tweeks 1, i.e it has somewhere to put velcro the DT 1 doesn't!

Hi guys, i fitted one of the pods a while back. I got a contourer from B+Q (one of those things that you put against something and it adjusts to give you the profile). This was then put against the a pillar and the profile transfered to the pod. Cut it out with a Stanley knife and hey presto, a perfect fit . No need for any rubber trim.

Tony.
