Default Defi Guru Help...

Hi there,

Just fitted (or had Cornelius fit them for me ) a set of 60 mm gauges but I have a problem.

On the oil pressure, the gauge has a reading, but the warning buzzer/light stays on?

We've moved the peak/warning to a higher level but still the light stays on (along with that annoying beeeeeeeeeeep)

I thought at first maybe it was faulty but if it was, then logic would dictate that there shouldn't be a reading...which there is?

Can anyone help please?

Many thanks

If it's for a warning isn't it for low pressure? Ie you need to set it to a low setting. If you've set it anywhere above (say) 2 bar for example it'll be on permanantly as that's your low warning not a high warning

Let me help.
It's a problem with the Defi control unit ... The Oil pressure will cause an alarm as soon as the system is powered (engine off) untill the engine is turned on.
Even when no settings are done (alarm settings concerning pressure values) it will still sound an alarm since the system thinks something is wrong, which is logical since the engine is off so the pressure is 0.
It's a pitty that Defi overlooked this and so far i have not seen a solution for this.
I have several gauges and sensors connected including engine speed (rpm) and this doesn't help either (you'd expect the logics to see interpret the rpm with pressure values).

Very dissapointing.

Correct, since with engine OFF there is no oil pressure.

But ONLY at too low a pressure or when the engine is OFF.

I can't see the preoblem? You want an alarm if the oil pressure goes too low, but you want it to sense that the engine is off? Is that it?

As has been stated thealarm on the Oil temp should be regarded as the LOW OIL PRESSURE ALARM.

ie, if the Oil Pressure is LOWER than what ou st it at, the alarm goes off.

Try setting the alrm for about 1.6 Bar to see if that helps (differing Oil types have different Oil pressures when hot or cold and so low Oil pressure is dependant on Oil viscocity).

Yes, because now it will constant alarm when you turn on just the ignition.
There is no logic in reporting an alarm when the engine is not running, it's just a nuisance. As soon as the engine is running the watchdog should be working.

Guess i;m just asking too much

I see what you mean, but mine only alarms when I turn the ignition on TWO clicks, ie: just prior to starting it, by turning it one more click against the spring.. It doesn't do it with the ignition on one click, for radio, etc. If yours does, check your wiring.

Depends on how its wired .... the Defi manual suggests the orange wire is connected to an iginition on power supply, and I suppose its a lot easier to find a position one power supply than one that is only live at position two.

Nothing wrong with either setup and the alarm has gone off at position one with both my installs .... easily sorted though by putting a switch on this circuit .... again, done it with both my cars!!

Wouldn't it have been easier, cheaper and more OE to just wire them properly in the first place?

Regardless, the oil pressure alarm still sounds at times you dont want it to .... switch is handy to have for this and other reasons .... think it cost about £1.99??

Just use an ignition on wire, not the regular switched 12v wire.
At the ignition key barrel there is a wire which is hot only with the engine turning/cranking.
Use that one to trigger a relay, and use the relay to supply power to the Defi's.
That way you can have the car on contact, to listen to the radio or whatever, but without having the Defi's on (and giving the low pressure alarm)

Hi Gents,

Wanted to say thank you very much for the help, indeed it was the fact that I set the warning high instead of low...DOH!

Can't believe I missed something so simple...really glad SN is still a great source for help

Thanks again

Thanks mate!!

It is a Defi pod , got it end of last year second hand off a fellow club member and then gave it a nice coat of paint, not sure you can still get them now?

The head unit is a Kenwood DDX6029 .... again, got it second hand off a fellow 320 owner who had it in his GB270, but didnt need it as his 320 has the sat nav upgrade. Really good quality and I love the "no buttons/*****" look, especially as you can set it so that the screen goes off when its in use!!
