MY01 need servicing in in the next week or so.

Chiark ( God of Gauges ) suggests Scoobymania to get hold of one but they are out of stock. I havn't yet decided which gauge to go for but it obviously makes sense to put the sender in at the service.

Question is anybody else sell them ?
Would i have to specify a size for the sender 1/8th etc and will that limmit me on my gauge selection ?

Cheers

Failing that you can use the other favourite place for the sender and put it above the No 3 piston. There is an allen key screw there that needs removing and replacing with a threaded screw that your dealer can supply. It costs about a tenner.

There was a post about this sometime ago, and there are also some posts on the i-club bbs.

That's where mine's going when I get round to fitting them

As hanslow says, end of the cylinder is best if you can get your gauge in there. The Defi gauges screw straight in, if I have been informed correctly (Autometer don't!)

Ahh,
so buy defi cos they fit the Subaru adaptor. Only problem now is that i will need to get a Defi without the link system as i don't want all that gubbins. Boost is already going on the heads up screen display from defi.

So i wonder how i would find what size the OE and Defi thread is. just in case i decide i've found a better looking gauge.

Nick,

Am I right in thinking you should be alright with any of the makes of gauge provided you have the right adapter between the threaded screw that goes above No. 3 and the sender itself?

I haven't fitted mine yet and will soon be discovering all this My oil temp gauge comes with two conversion collars for converting between metric and imperial (I think) or at least two different sizes.

Should make for interesting fun when I actually try and fit it

In case I wasn't clear earlier I've purchased the 10 quid adaptor that replaces the existing allen key screw from Subaru. Haven't actually checked if my sender will screw straight into it, or if I will need a supplied adapter. From the info on the i-club site, I think I should be OK

When I get my last gauge I will be. Tried my sender in my adapter and it is OK. Fascia is all sorted, home made wiring looms are all sorted, I just need the last gauge so that I can fit them all

Steve, cool, excellent, glad it worked. Can you post here or mail me the part number of the Subaru item, and let me know what gauges you're using as it'll help the pages?

Ta,

Nick.

Nick,

The part number for the subaru bit is 11024AA210 and is a Plug-Main Gallery.

I'm assuming it's the right bit cos I ain't fitted it yet Looks the same as those on the i-club site though

i'm getting a bit confused with the i-club pics. has any one got any pics of where the main plug galley fits on a MY99 turbo.
thats if it does....

the i-club threads refer to oil pressure where as i'm assuming this thread refers to oil temp (with it being titled sump plug).

my intrest in all this is that i'm after a different place to take the oil temp from, apart from the sump plug as mines got a slight oil leak at the momemt and scoobymania have no stock of the autometer sump plug sender/adaptors.

Kevin, Nicks FAQ on gauges now has mention of the alternative place to take temperature from. If you look in his FAQ at the oil temp section, the DEFI's appear to fit straight into the Subaru threaded screw adapter in this place. It might clear some of it up for you?

Given your point though, and assuming the guys on I-Club are talking about the same thing....can you take oil temp and pressure from there? I'd like to keep my existing oil pressure sender, so I can either tee that off where it currently is, or possibly tee of this galley plug and take both pressure and temperature from there.

Anybody any ideas on the latter comment?

Buy asump plug +washer from your dealer & drill & tap.
If you ave no taps a local engineering shop can do in 5mins. Take the male sender.
On top of the engine are two places to tap into for oil pressure or tempreture. You could consider doing away with the oil pressure switch as it comes on about 8psi by which time the damage is done. Bit like alight to tell you that you have a problem that you already know about.
As I had engine out I improved on original through the drain hole/sump plug by brazing temp sender into a hole drilled above the sump plug. I then replaced original pressure switch with 3bar item which can flicker at tick over hot. The pressure guage then went into the rear most hole after removing the large alloy allen key.
The temp sender to be accurate must be in the oil flow & not remote down a tee.
Hope this helps the original thread.
