Wired up boost gauge and everthing seemed o.k. but when washer put on gauge temparory goes off then on again. Multi-meter reading is 12 vdc when ignition on (switch live) then with washer jet on voltages goes and then comes back again when released. What is going on? As you may have guessed not an eletrical expert plus no wiring diagram for car (WRX 94). Is this a possible earth fault?

Did you by chance use the windscreen wipers as the ignition on feed?

Swap it to take power from somewhere else, it sounds like the wiper spray motor is nicking all the power from the gauge.

I'd re-route the power to the gauge from somewhere else, the back of the stereo is fairly easy to get to.. if you have a monster stereo system then you probably don;t want to nick power from it, but if standard stereo or similar then should be fine.

Thanks for that info I will try stereo area instead as it is normal system.
In answer to did I take from windscreen wiper, god only knows! As I said not electrical expert but will try again as very stubborn, otherwise the little Defi's will get the club hammer treatment!

I would hazard a guess that you've not taken power from the washers, but have used the washer switching line as the GROUND for your defis.

Ground is easy to find - anything metallic in the car should be usable
