Question

I pulled the carpet back yesterday to check what ECU my car had, and when I put it pack, I couldn't get one of the plastic plugs back in properly.

It's the one that goes through the plastic trim on the nearside.

Any advice please?

Cheers
Tim

Take more bits out and start again - remove the trim that's in the footwell that goes along the door, fit the carpet, then refit the trim.

Any use?

Hmmm, that sounds a bit extreme:

I have the hole in the carpet lined up with the hole in the plastic trim, and I can see the 'socket' that the fastener should go into through these holes, I just can't get the fastener to go back in properly.

The end of the fastener seems to be 'splayed' out, like may be it's a use-once type thing?

Thanks
Tim

Oh, I think I see what you mean. If it's one of the splay type fastener thingies (that's the techie term ) then you may find that you can pull the centre bit of the fastener out, allowing the sproingy things to go into the whole.

(You can tell it's friday afternoon)

Does this make any sense?

It's 2 seperate bits. Take the splayed bit off the pin bit and insert the splayed bit through the hole in the trim and the fixing point behind, then push the pin bit through the splayed bit.
Bisch Bosch Bash.
Pretty much as Chiark said.
