Default Boost gauge - Dealer rip-off !

I went to the dealers yesterday and they want £139 for the gauge and £150 to fit it !!!!!!! WTF !!!!! they wouldn't negotiate either, they said that was Subaru prices for you and they don't make anything out of the fitment as it is a difficult and time comsuming job (Yeah, right, for monkeys !).
I asked about supplying my own gauge and they were ok with this, they also said I could have one fitted myself and NOT invalidate my Warranty. I think I would want that in writing. I have decided I want to fit the gauge to the right of the Clocks on the top of the dash as near to the upright post as possible, the more descrete the better.

Anyone got any website links for some decent gauges ? (not illuminated ones as I do not want the electrics touched).

Xtreme Scoobies charged £100 for fitting my 3 Defi gauges. A darn site more involved that fitting 1 boost gauge.

Just a quick question - where did you take the feed for the gauge from? i have an 02 WRX and do not want it off the dump valve as it is not that accurate.

Jammers - if your car is the same setup as a MY99 which i believe it will be then this pic should help. It's the nipple where the small white pipe goes in

What if ? - You don't need to mess with your cars electrics to have illumination. Just run your own feed straight from the battery. Here are the Defis for ya

Fitted a Spitfire boost gauge to my 02WRX, took me around 1/2hour. illumination picked up from the back of the switches near the coin tray.
Don't have the car anymore but it looked A1 and all for 30quid!

Just got one from my local Subaru dealer. £139.99 for the gauge and all the bits needed to fit which included a easy to follow instruction sheet.

I was quoted £60 to fit (basically 1 hours labour). I thought that was rather expensive so fitted it myself. Fairly easy to fit, took me a couple of hours although I was taking my time. Certainly wouldn't pay £150 to have it fitted, thats taking the ****. A technician who would have fitted several should be able to do this in 1 hour.

Graham.

Sorry for being a bit thick. So do you just fit a T piece in this hose to run the gauge from?

Thanks.

I simply T'eed off the pipe between the inlet manifold and the dump valve.

I understand some models (not sure what years) actually have a spare nipple on the inlet manifold next to the dump valve pipe which can also be used.

This pipe then runs through the bulk head, into the car. It comes in under the steering column. Then simply fits into the back of the boost gauge.

Yeh - i've had a good look for this nipple as in the above pic and can't find it, so i'm guessing my inlet manifold is a bit different to other years.
In that case do you think it'll be fine tee'ing off the pipe, next to the nipple in the above pic???

Graham - what model year car did you do that on, and thos ewere from the subaru instructions???

ohhhhhhhhhhhh ........

No i don't understand why they charge so much, as it is an easy job once you decide where to tee off, i've done it to a couple of other cars in the past.

Now if you don't have anything constructive to say ......

Because, put simply, i want to get it right and if there is a nipple that i can tee off from, then i'd rather use that. Obviously, you have no intention of constructively adding any comments, and then start to get personal, you remind me of someone ........
