Default Installing A Defi Controller

I'm new to this forum, and have been reading about these Defi guages and the controller.

Can someone explain how you fit the controller? Does anyone have any pictures? Does it plug into the ECU ?

Cheers,

The contoller only needs wiring to : earth, power ,ignition and illumination.

Each gauge that you buy will have it's own sensor - the wiring from Each sensor, once mounted in the right place on the engine , plugs into the control box.

then there is one link wire that comes from the controller To the first gauge.
The rest of the gauges ( up to 7 in total ) then connect to each other in a Daisy Chain effect )

fitted mine a coupla weeks ago - well worth it !

Good man, that looks trick!

But are the sensors easy to fit? Is it something any idiot with half a brain cell can fit?

yes , its easy enough.

boost gauge - just t's off a vacuum pipe from the inlet manifold.

oil pressure - has a sensor that takes the place of the old oe sensor (you need to loosen alternator and wiggle it about a bit to change the sensor)

oil temperature - there is an 8mm hex blanking plug above no.3 cylinder , you need a thread adaptor ( 067L ) from here. with the intercooler off it's easy to remove the blanking plug, screw in adaptor and then screw in Defi sensor.

3 cross head screws and a good tug then you will need a hacksaw to cut away the old screw lugs to make the gap the right size for the unit

Iain...

When wiring up the Controller Unit, do u have a feed direct to the Battery?

Or is normal for the power supply to be tapped into some other power line?

Need to know as I think my Defi's are draining my battery and need to have the system disconnected to see if it makes any difference.

Car had a new battery last month and now its dead again.

i think i picked up the power supply off the cigarette lighter.

It's not usually necessary to go direct to the battery, but i suppose it would eliminate any problems for you.

check it's earthed properly as well , coz if it's not, that might be giving you a problem.

Try here for fitting instructions/help.

http://www.stefanostadal.homedns.org...ods_gauges.htm

And have you thought about fitting controller into the ashtray slot, if you dont need it that is, no cutting just remove and slot control in.

Here's some pics of my install;
