From about 3 weeks old my 2000 MY turbo has had a squeak , real annoying, I put it down to the cd player I fitted in place of the standard 8 valve wireless .Anyway this week after removing and refitting the stereo (no change) I finally traced the noise to the driver's side seat belt buckle. As the car's due a service next week I'll try and get the dealer to replace the offending item (I've tried lubing it, but to no avail). thought this info may help someone trace the same fault

Irritating isn't it. I had the same squeak on my MY98 and also blamed the stereo, front seats, back seats, shelf etc.
Have you tried applying a light coating of grease to the end of the metal seatbelt insert (you know the chrome bit) before putting 'clunk-clicking'. I did this a couple of times and it fixed the problem.
Now if I could resolve the creak from the back somewhere ... and the rattly speakers at volume ... etc, etc, etc
