FITTING 2 DEFI METERS IN A CENTRE DASHPOD< TIPS PLEASE!
#1
Hello there,
I've just bought 2 Defi 52mm meters and the control unit II.
I would like to know who has fitted 2 meters into a centre dash pod
in the classic ( 1998), with pictures if possible.
what pod would be the best match, regarding both dashcolor and fit?
i will not fit a 3rd meter, so it can't be the "wavy" type.
is the face plate a DIY project, or does anyone provide it pre-cut for just 2 meters?
i can use as much info as possible,
THANXXX

Think you should give the chaps at scooby mania a ring,
They do a rectangle shaped pod (strieght along the top)that need's drilled when you buy it - so I would asume this is your best bet
Subaru do one but it needs adapting for the 52m gauges and don't look that good

Scoobymania may actually cut out your pod if you buy from them.
Why will you never fit a third gauge?
I have their pod, and have e-mailed you a pic of it in place, plus fitting of the control unit in a @98 car.
Or rather, I would have e-amiled you one if youe addy was in your profile:

hi alcazar,
nice!!!!! i asume the defi's are 60mm?
you also have the control unit in the space that i want to install mine.
is the front of the control unit flush with the rest of the panel,or does it stick out?
could you describe how you went about fitting it in like this?
( Scoobymania pod has been ordered today )

I then cut two vertical slots in the plastic housing, to JUST allow the control box to slide in. There is metal behind there too, but the c/b just clears it!
The slots were cut with a junior hacksaw blade, out of it's handle, slowly.:
I then snapped the plastic away with a pair of pliers.
Feed the wiring through the slot at this point, and fit it to the c/b.
Fitting the c/b was by applying sticky pads to the underside, sliding it in, and applying a couple more above to hold it firmly. This is where you can decide exactly where you want it, so I temporarily refitted the tray/pod to see how far out they stuck, and held the c/b where I wanted as I removed them again, before permanently fixng the c/b.
If you ever do want to remove c/b and refit blanking plate, it can be done by cutting through the sticky pads, and the blanking plate refits with two dollops of silicone, which will produce an invisible fit.
Hope this is of help.
