Great switch. I used it to drive round all day with my lights on dipped (yeah, no Volvo comments please; I'll assume other drivers are blind or dopey until proven otherwise) and knew they'd switch off automatically when the ignition was off. Way more sensible than the European default setting of the other way round.

Brendan, I see nothing wrong with driving at all times with your lights on. I've been doing it since I visited Sweden nearly ten years ago where it's compulsory, and it's second nature to me now to always switch on the side lights whenever I drive any car.

I'm convinced that my second car, a very good condition Opel Monza which is anthracite in colour, is invisible to other road users unless the lights are on! I'm glad it's brakes are superb!

Any way to make my presence on the road more obvious to less attentive drivers, the better IMHO.

Only problem is - bikers use their lights in the daytime to become more visible (which most of the time does not work anyway) What happens when all the cars have their lights on during the day as well??

Actually when I got the car, the sales rep told me that first you have to press that switch and then set the indicator lever to the side you want the parking lamps to be turned on (either right side or left side)....like on the VW Golf's....

ha ha, think we've all had that nightmare!!

Just after I got mine I must have switched it by mistake, then spent the next half hour wondering why I couldnt get the fuc**ng side lights to go out!!

that swich is a bit pointless if you ask me, as is the headlight washer switch which I still have'nt managed to get to work?

How do you get it to work, do you have to have lights on or wipers on or something?? someone enlighten me!!

Headlight washer should work as long as the ignition is fully on.

Pushing the end of the stalk is the Windscreen washer. The headlight washer is a seperate button.

Well i reckon the most "useless switch" in the scoob is the "bright" switch. All that seems to happen is the clock becomes a tad brighter! Wipee!! Couldnt live without it!
