Yep I just took the vent surround and gear console out and have just started priming them, think I'll stick 4 coats of primer, 4 coats alu colour and 3 coats laquer.
By the way any one considering this on a my97, you have my deepest simpaphy, man that vent surround was a bitch and I ended up loosing a screw driver down the actual vent and cant get it out, what a sod and why dont they make those wire coat hangers anymore????????????

Will do,

I'm putting the laquer on tomorrow and fitting back on sunday so I'll stick some pics up in the evening.

If you want to do it just do it but make sure you have got a bendy screwdriver or an 8mm spanner and a pozi bit. Unfortunatley I didn't. Oh well its done now, cant wait to see finished job...

Man my camera is ****e...

I got a plastic primer that my local motor bits sells also some alu spray and the laquer all for a tenner, also some 800 grit paper, I checked to see if the plastic primer would hold by spraying them up with one coat then trying to scratch it off, it seemed to hold well so I proceeded, It's a pain though because I'm not sure about other paints but the stuff I used takes 24 hours to cure so you have to stick one thin coat at a time 10-15 mins apart, then when you've finished wait 24hrs to spray the colour and so on.
So your car is a right bloody mess inside for 3 days..

Got to be worth it though because the interior is crap...imo

If it's not a daft question how did you get the bit around the vents off. Looks fantastic by the way and I am now very tempted to do mine.

Yes the two screws under the vent housing are a bi**h it was a struggle but all you need is a 7mm spanner taped with a pozi bit in it then you can pull towards yourself to undo them, believe me its a pain but worth it.

You just have to pull the top then the bottom and sides then pull the whole lot as far as you can, dont be scared to give it a good heave...
Went to TSL to get my sti 4 spoiler, and Paul gave it the thumbs up....

And today I have just took my side skirts off and ordering my paint for sat so thats next..

Thats good martin.

Nick, i dont see how your screws were so hard to get out? Must have taken me about 5 seconds. Had the vents in and out the whole weekend. Yours must have been a bit stuck!!

M8 the actual vents not so bad it was the air control unit fixed to the surround it would only pull out about an inch no matter what I did, I think it was all the attached gubbins but couldn't get to them to move them.

Anyway done now and I've just purchased my red 2pak paint so spoilers next, should be fun....

Nick, i searched high and low today for that paint, eventually found it in a Bulls eye motorists store

Halfords stuff just dont seem right to me, im no spraying expert but the stuff they had for primer was a primer/ filler Also it would have cost more than double for the stuff from halfords.

As you said, under £10 for the primer, the paint, the laquer and the sandpaper

Tomorrow im on the case

Yes I left the ashtray black, wasn't sure how much to do but I still wanted some contrast to it I didn't want everything to blend too much, but saying that I dont know what it would look like I might give it a go I've got enough paint left.

Tell you what do yours then post a pic then I'll decide.......

And you are right it looks so much classier..

Last night i applied the silver paint to the bits, but i ran out after a couple of coats. I dont think i have quite got the hang of this spraying lark yet

Im going to get some more silver paint today and finish it tonight, then i only need to apply the laquer.

Im going to leave the ashtray too for now, also that small panel at the bottom of the centre console has my clifford alarm switch and led fitted onto it. I could get them off ok but there is another small black think fitted to it too with a wire dissapearing off into the mass of wiring in the dash, so thats going to have to stay black too for now.

As soon as i have finished the job i will get pics up for u to see. I need to clean the interior too first, i cant have u lot seeing how filthy my car is inside
