Was boost on idle???
#1
What should the boost gauge be reading on idle? Fitted one last night, when I turned the car on and let it idle the needle went down to -0.5 (cmHg?).
Took the car out and when on full boost it was peaking at almost 1bar and holding 0.8bar the rst of the time.
Does the idle value seem right and if not what might be causing it to read ok under pressure but not at rest?

There are a few threads about this, but your boost sounds pretty much spot on. My car idles negative too.
As far as I understand it when you're idling (out of gear) the engine only needs to generate enough power to turn the engine components, meaning there is little fuel burnt and consequently not much exhaust gas produced. No gas means no boost. The situation's similar under light throttle. Only when the engine needs to generate a lot of power, creating a lot of exhaust gas, will you see a positive boost reading.
