Thumbs down

Rang them up last night to find out about the obligatory mods (SS BB + Panel filter ) + change to 'non-standard' wheels and they said 'that can be done' .... I thought wooohooo 'for an addition to your premium of 390 pounds' .... I thought cack
'and an addition to your compulsory excess of 300 pounds' ... at which point I cried and loudly.

Needless to say my Scoob is gonna stay mod-free for a while longer.

What kind of sick comedy is that anyways ? ....

Strange that, I had a STi backbox and K&N induction kit put on MY97 car and direct line only charge me about £100 more. Put my insurance up to around £750 with £500 excess.

Unhappy

I think it was the wheels that caused most of the damage .... didn't matter if they were 18"/19" or even 20" , the fact was they were 'non-standard' and made the car immediately more attractive to the tea-leaves.

Direct line like all others will offer a reasonable deal to get the buisness then stuff you for mods and extras.
I had a brake upgrade and eibachs fitted by TSL recently and Direct line charged me another £78 quid for the eibachs as it 'lowered' the car. They also charged me extra for fitting a back box.
Trouble is if you have things done and do not notify them then come the unfortunate day you may need to claim and the worms will use these mods as an excuse not to pay out.

I've got mods on my car, eibachs, Prodrive Exhaust, Prodrive 17" wheels, all listed on the policy and it added £60 to the premium from Drirect Line!

Rang directline today about mods, they wanted an extra £8.40 until July for a Prodrive Back Box.

Even better, when I asked about upgrading to Sti (Brembo) brakes he said "that doesn't count as a modification". I bet you're all going to tell me Sti brakes aren't much good now!

Angry

just spoke to Tesco which is same crowd as DL and was told that for remaining 6 months it would be extra 200 quid to change wheels (same size, diff pattern) and another 90 quid for exhaust. That makes a 700 quid policy nearly 1300 quid for the year . ******* / daylight robbery

when I rang them earlier in year, cosmetic mods were no increase and ppp would only be extra 100 quid. That I could live with but they can take a running jump now

rant not over yet ;(

Jeez.

I use Adrian Flux.
I get hammered with the usual "excess" story (I'm at £350 excess) but the wifey over the phone asked if any of the mods made a performance difference.
With a list of cosmetic and engine mods on the car, the only one she was concerned about was the exhaust, and she asked how much of an increase it was likely to give.......

Hi there,

Well im looking at getting my Octavia RS soon and was phoning round for qoutes. With a few tweeks (ie no legal cover, bumped up excess and low milage) I got it to around ~£800 full comp which is only £130 more than my 306 Xsi tpft.

Not bad for a 24 yr old with 1 accident.
