Default Insurance needed today!! Help!!

Hi all

We're pretty new here and really need some help. We pick the car up today but as yet have no insurance. Best quote so far is Admiral £1014!! I'm 40, 3 points and never had a fault accident!! My partner in 28, fully clean Licence and never had a fault accident. We live in a decent area, CH post code (Chester)
The car is an 06 WRX Hawkeye totally standard apart from PPP. Thatcham 1 fitted so I'm at a loss as it think why other drivers on here quote £4-500 insurance for their fully modded cars. Are you all 80 with 60 years no claims??

Rant over!! LOL

Any help, as alwasy, is very appreciated

Gareth

Not so "easily" sorted. Your company has refused to cover me and my partner. The post above is quite clear to see our ages, and the fact we've never had a fault accident but because I've only owned a Vectra SRi (deisel because of the mileage I do) over the last 12 months, I'm deemed not responsible enough a driver to handle a WRX despite 20 years of non fault accidents in GTEs, Calibra Turbos, 300ZX Twin Turbos, M3s, Imprezas, TTs, and numerous track days.

She is part Exing a 1.8 Astra SRi, not a 911, but hardly a Daewoo Matiz either

Who exactly do you insure?

Look forward to your reply

Pass my thanks on to your company for wasting my time and please understand this isn't personal

Hi Gareth,

Sorry to hear that we were unable to help on this occasion.

To clarify, we are able to cover drivers aged 25 or over upon WRX STi models but with drivers at the younger end of the scale we do have a current (ie. last 12m) high performance car experience requirement.

My understanding was that we were able to offer a competitive quotation for your Subaru Impreza STI in the £600's for yourself only driving, but with your named driver being in her 20's the underwriters were looking for experience of a vehicle with around 170bhp+ to qualify for their experience requirement (for the STi model).

As confirmed by my colleague, we can cover the vehicle competitively with just yourself driving.

The other factor that restricted our markets was that most of our Underwriters require the vehicle they are covering to be registered in the name of the policyholder, leased by the policyholder, or where legally married in the name of their spouse (wife/husband).

I'm sorry that you feel we've wasted your time, we had approached Underwriters on your behalf and did genuinely look to help.

Kind regards

Tony

Thanks for the reply, and actually getting back to me, when others haven't.

One question, will the named driver, who may never drive the car, aquire the same "years experience"? How do your work this out on a policy with a named driver? Are the drivers expected to keep a log? Keep a pro-rata?

Interested to find out your thoughts?

Gareth

PS Got covered through Admiral in the end who didn't require to know what I'd owned for the last year, based the quote on 20 years of non fault accident driving and gave a reasonable level of cover for the car.

If yoiu're struggling to get a proper quote today (why you left it so late?), can you get a temp cover policy for a few days/1 week whilst Keith Michaels or others do get back in touch.

I'd rather pay say £50-100 to get temp cover for a bit and pay a good premium over the year than pay £1000+ at 40! Eeep. i'm 27 and my premium is £675 thank god

Tony

Lastly, it's a WRX as stated in the first post, not an STi,

...not that this would have made any difference

Hi Gareth,

Covering you at 40 with 20 years claim free driving was never the issue, we advised this and had offered you a competitive option based upon yourself only driving.

The performance car driving experience of the named driver and a requirement for the vehicle to be registered to the policyholder was what had restricted our markets.

In terms of proven driving experience for named drivers, no log of when they have driven is required.

where a driver is already named upon an existing policy most Underwriters will rely upon uppermost good faith and take the advice of the policyholder as to the extent that the named driver has used the vehicle.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

Tony

This is a little worrying . I sold my 450 bhp Impreza last week which I had owned for 3 years and was planning on running a more normal car for a couple of years . I really hope that I won't be considered a high risk when I eventually buy another performance car .

It's a flippin joke to be honest.

Best one I had was not counting the bike experience because you know, a 180mph 0-60 in three seconds bike isn't a performance vehicle oh no sir.

5t.
