Default Insuring cars with tints.

Do you need to declare these or are they not something that insurance companies are interested in providing they are legal?

For a number of reasons I am wanting to tint the rear half of the car a subtle (not limo black) shade but insurance isn't due for 2 months so trying to get an overview of how they feel about it.

Yes it needs declaring, if you get charged any extra for it you are with the wrong insurance company.

As per Ollie,

You need to declare tints to your Insurer, but this isn't anything that should increase your premium.

Just one other point - We tend to find that windscreen replacement companies such as Autoglass can replace the glass, but do not have the facility to tint. So you may have to re-tint yourself after the glass is replaced.

Kind regards

Tony

Thanks, Im getting a more sensible family car now which the wife can drive (she passed 2 months ago). Problem is if I declare on the price comparison websites that I have mods regardless of what it is they refuse to insure or give some stupidly high price.

Im sure that there must be ways around it but its a pain that you even need to mention them. If they are legal and shouldnt effect the premium anyway what difference does it make?

Hi SRSport,

Whilst we don't currently cover too many of the sensible everyday type cars, we know a man that does - who should be able to entertain minor things like tints etc.

Will PM you the details.

Kind regards

Tony
