Anyone have classic insurance on 15+yo Subaru?
Hi All,
My renewal is up 30% despite no change in circumstances except being a year older (26) and an extra year of NCB (7). I'll do the usual ringing around the usual suspects, but I'm wondering about classic insurance now my Scoob (non turbo but lightly modded) is 15 years old.
I've got an MX5 on classic insurance and it costs about a quarter of what a normal policy would. My insurer for that (Footman James) say that they don't treat Subarus as classic until they are 20 years old. I can understand that as we all know how some of the older Imprezas are treated, but mine is being kept forever and is always garaged and no expense spared so I think classic insurance would be justified. Can anyone suggest a company who might entertain this?

Ok, thanks Moley. Can I check how much you've looked into this though? For example, the AA classic insurance (Towergate) website says vehicles at least 15yo, implying any vehicle, but when I try the online quote thing it says I need to call them for "vehicle referral", which I expect means "go away". Is it worth my time trawling through all the classic insurers, or do you know pretty certainly that it's never going to happen?

We deal with 5-6 companies who do classic policies, and non of them consider a Subaru as a 'classic' or 'future classic'.
I'm 99% sure you won't find a company who'll do a classic policy on an Impreza unfortunately.

Ok, many thanks for that.
As an aside, I was discussing the 'future classic' thing with a mate at the NEC classic show at the weekend. I bet a good condition, standard, early Impreza Turbo is going to be sought after in 10 years time since it's bound to become retro cool and be pretty rare, much like the way fast hatches of the 80s are going now.
