Insurance renewal - Would you be happy with this?
#1
Just renewed with a company I have not used before, and have found out that when the current policy expires they will apply to my credit card company for the funds to renew the policy. Assuming I renew elsewhere, they will refund monies when I can prove that I have insurance elsewhere.
I'm not so chuffed about this, what do ya reckon?

I reckon thats a great con to keep you as their customer. They are obviously hoping that you won't bother with all the hassle of cancelling and refunds and stay with them - I'd be a bit peeved if my company did that

One insurer told me they were going to do that years ago - can't remember who it was, Direct Line maybe? I phoned them and told them I wasn't happy and they said "no problem, if you don't want it we won't do it, we're just trying it as a service to customers, saves them having to do anything each renewal". Er, yeah, anything you say...

Same happened to me today. Bell Direct sent renewal notice, new certificate etc. Rang them to ask for more competitive quote. Couldn't match Direct Line. They said they would cancel my credit card payment. Don't remember agreeing to that last year..........!

They can not force you to make a payment, they are wrong and are trying it on. Tell them not to take any payment, if they do they are breaking the law. You do not have to prove to them you have insurance, it's as simple as that.

They would break the Law in taking a payment without your consent. Even if they let you know they will take the payment you have not given them permision to do so and there for it is technically a form of theft.
Let them do it then call the police.
