I heard something today and I just wanted to check if its true:

Apparently, if you have a crash and you choose not to repair your own car (i.e minor incident) you don't have to pay your excess? Is this correct?

The reason I ask is that a white van reverse into me in a car park and its only minor damage. Naturally he wants to aviod the insurance but if he doesn't repair his van then am I right in saying he won't get charged for his excess??

Hi Steve,

Accidental damage excesses only apply to damage claimed for under your/his own policy, thus providing that his excess relates to Accidental Damage he would not have to pay this unless he is claiming for damage to HIS vehicle.

If the excess is an ALL Sections excess it would apply to ALL damage, whether to his or your vehicle. But all sections excesses are extremely rare these days, so it's unlikely that he will have one of these upon his policy.
