Default Insurance after been made redundant

Got made redundant last month

Tried to phone up and renew my insurance with Greenlight this morning and they refused to continue my policy because I was out of work

Does anyone have any experience of this? Can anyone recommend anywhere that would consider people who are currently unemployed?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out here, or at least offer some advice, feels like my heart has been ripped out at the moment

Hi Paul,

Insurers often have a stipulation requiring their policyholder to be in full time employment/education, which is often criteria that is imposed to qualify under their schemes.

But having just seen your post I'd like to try and assist if possible.

Can you please PM me your actual name, postcode & either registration or date of birth as this will enable me to look into this for you.

Kind regards

Tony

Thanks for the reply Tony, but I did return a phone call to your customer services yesterday asking them if there was anything at all possible that they could do. Unfortunately the answer was no and I requested proof of my NCD.

After an amount of searching I found another policy with esure who were happy to help.

Regards,

Paul

I just sorted out my mums insurance for her last night and she is unemployed .... no problems at all - that was with direct line.

My opinion is that this is totally unfair and it shouldn't have to come to posting on a public forum for them to change there minds ... they either do or don't

A really nice kick while you are down Eh ?

Lov 'em.

P.S. I took a "holiday" three years back, for six months, to do up a house to sell, I didn't think it was relevant !

We are an independent broker and having checked our systems by running open market comparisons it seems there are quite a number of Insurers that operate this way, altering their terms when the only difference is being in employment.

More than ever, in this climate Insurers do need to adopt a more sympathetic approach and i'd be happy to take up the "computer says no" response with your Insurer at management level on your behalf.

Simply contact me by PM if you would like me to intervene.

Kind regards

Tony

Our view is very much that our customer represents the same risk as before, which is why I am suggesting that we review & refer with the Underwriter concerned.
