Surely the thing to do here is buy a type UK PPP, use the £600 for a remap and hey presto, similar beast and the next year you will save the money all over again and can continue with your mod's if you like

When I got my first insurance quotes when looking to buy an Impreza, had quotes of £1200 for a UK Turbo, of the few places I could find that would insure an import, they wanted over £3000 !

The two cars are chalk and cheese.

Still much cheaper, Keith Michaels do great rates for modded UK cars, don't know what a similarly treated import would be but it would be more expensive and you know it. Some people like the imports and some don't, you don't need to get defensive over it. I have only driven UK cars so don't know the difference but from what I read on here the imports are obviously very good cars, just not everyone's cup of tea

Rubbish! - shop around and go to A-Plan/Keith Michaels etc. My old highly modded JDM STI was £480 a year for a 28 year old. In fact it was cheaper to ensure than my old bog standard Uk300 which is a tarted up wrx.

The way to look at it is imports are specialised (in this country anyway) so go to specialist insurers. Tescos and the like generally insure Ford Mondeos and purposely don't want to insure import cars so put you off with sky high prices.

Yes you can mod a uk spec car but i bet 99.99% of hose that do don't put in the uprated engine internals that make the JDM such a good base and more reliable at high tune.

Besides, not sure how many companies will insure a uk spec without cat 1 immobiliser and how many would want a car without one anyway?
