Default Another insurance rant/question

Could one of the experts here let me know if the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act applies to traffic offences as well? One of the things that pisses me off about insurance is the fact that they want to know any conviction over the last five years, despite the fact that DVLA will remove it from my licence after four and the points cease to count after three. So I want to know if I can refuse to answer because they are contravening the act by requiring me to disclose a 'spent' offence.

I also want to give them a kick up the **** to get them to join us in the 21st century. I'm informed they only ask this question because, historically, they always have. Maybe they only rob us blind on premiums for the same reason?
Anyway, I have a large stick which I am about to poke in the hornet's nest that is the motor insurance industry and waggle around. Anyone able to offer netting, smoke or sting relief to assist me is very welcome...

It is a way of monitoring your driving history.

The question is if you have any convictions in the last 5 years, not how many points do you have on your licence.

Accidents don't appear on your licence either, but the companies still want to know about them

No, I understand why the question is asked. What I wanted to know is whether the industry is actually breaking the law by asking me to disclose spent offences...

I can see your point, but the insurance industry is so tightly monitored these days that it must have been approved.

No need to apologise - it's not the answer I wanted but it looks as though it's the right answer. So I really meant thanks for the reply!

Have a good weekend.
