Default Keith Micheals and A plan service???

I tried to get a quote the other day-asked for Gary at Keith Micheals, was told that he would call me back- never did, called A plan- friendly enough-took my details, told me they would call me back 5 mins later with my quote-took 2 hours,in fairness he did apoligise for the delay.

I dont normally moan about things, but one thing that really rattles my cage is when im told that i will get a callback and i dont get it!!!!
It may sound petty, but when this happens i then start to wonder what the service would be if i needed to use the insurance and make a claim.

Based on this alone, i decided to accept my renewal with Liverpool Victoria-which still covers my mods(existing policy)- Only cost about £70 more, which i'll happily pay for knowing that someone will be at the end of the phone when i want(24hr claim cover), and call back when they say they will!!!

I dont mean this post to be a Keith Michaels/A plan slating session-just an opportunity to vent my frustration, and also, if anyone from the said companys do read this, then maybe you could try to improve these areas, as im sure that im not the only one that feels this way.

Gary Moulson is very very busy, as a result of his popularity here. Another point in favour of Keith Michaels, is that your modifications will be replaced in the event of a claim..... Most insurers who cover mods, including A-Plan, will insure you with them, but they are replaced standard. Thats not the end of the world if you have an H&S rear box; but consider where youd stand if you had a (now only worth) £5,000 '99 with £4,000+ of modified parts fitted and suffer a total loss. By the time youre done youll be looking at a settlement thatll barely cover half of the value of your loss.....

I dont think that call centre based insurers can come even close in the service that they provide, compared to a specialist brokers either. Youll only find that out when you need them though.

totaly agree, gary is a great guy to deal with and even if i could have found a cheaper deal, i think i would have gone with them because its good to deal with someone who knows about your car and is willing to help you out. I can see how he is such a busy guy!

I would agree it's always worth waiting for Gary to get back to you he really is a top bloke, he is always willing to help out with claims and any advise on any aspect of you policy.
I recently had some back luck in my scoob and he was only to happy to help with my claim and to do most of the chasing up when it came to engineers report's, underwriters etc etc.
If it takes a while just think how busy he is, he will get back to you don't worry about that.

I have a liv vic existing policy too , for my modded UK but I am considering putting it back to standard , selling it and buying a classic sti to mod. who is the best for a modded sti as I understand liv vic will not want to know? , both a-plan and micheals have been mentioned but I wonder if "mods and jdm's" make things go to a daft price.

From what i have read about them, they can do some very cheap quotes.

Speak to Gary; if youre a reasonable risk Id bet that youll struggle to find a better price. Another point in favour of Keith Michaels, is that theyll cover your modified parts, rather than simply insure your car with them; but Ive said that already havent I?

As above - I rang yesterday - on the number quoted
Dont know if I was speaking to Gary though as they dont say their names
Only thing was - how did you get this number - Scoobynet I said

Rang lunchtime yesterday for a quote - said they would get back - now over 24 hours

So I will assume they have not rung back as they cant beat the quote from A Plan.............. my business will be with A Plan

Guys..

As mentioned before.. Gary is one guy within a company doing his best, but unfortunately he's working alone without back up.

It's clear and proven by posts on here that he'll do his best if you can get hold of him, but if he's oversubscribed, off on hols or at lunch he cant help if he's unavailable.

If you get him, great. If you dont, try the other guys there to see if they can help.

Failing this, we would be able to help anyone that needs a quote for their policy that requires urgent cover, or is unhappy hanging on for Gary.

If you need us, try us on 01277 263030 or visit www.greenlightinsurance.com

Ok - got a call this afternoon
A Plan cheaper.........

Oh well
Greenlight (who I also called) was funny though - nowhere near - but I half expected this

It always used to be that LV cornerned the market - now its clear that A plan is taking over (as from last year)

This stands true for highly modded and basic Subaru's (and I'm talking about no accidents, points, full no claims) - only issue is that its a Western London Postcode - but then this would be the same issue for all companies

I cant quite understand why there is such a wide range of quote. Greenlight could not quote (well not with a reasonable quote), gave me the number for a company called 'A QUOTE' - that was a joke - they were twice what A Plan had quoted

Is A plan just reducing 'its margins' or is Markerstudy or AMA (who they've quoted for a basic wrx 225bhp car for) not very good underwriters - I know that Markerstudy is not so good on cancellations but AMA is straight line on cancellation charges (I would only cancel if I sold the cars though)

still bizarre that there is such a difference - I'd have thought that in a highly competitive market place the quotes would be very similar to each other

You get better cover from Keith Michaels than you do from A-Plan, on a modified car though..... They cover you if your car is modified but they dont cover the parts!

Have to say great service from Gary, top guy and all sorted, all paperwork came through promptly can't fault them, and saved over £200 on my renewal.

Unfortuantly for a 420bhp Impreza we need to have previous experience on a similar car.....we have to look after our insurers aswell as our clients.

Not suprised your paperwork got through so quick, A Plan are based just down the road from you

I have one of my cars insured with A plan - they may give a cheap quote but the customer service for me has been crap

Took them ages to send me a certificate - then they send me one with incorrect details and it took them about 2 months to issue a replacement - over 3 months to give the correct certificate....... they blamed Markerstudy for taking ages - of course probably correct - but I found it unusual to be chasing for them to give me the correct insurance certificate - i.e. they would not have sent anything if I had not chased them!

Leuven
Took me 2 phone calls before I actually got a certificate then another 3 calls to get one with the right details

I checked - it took nearly 4 months........

Glad I never got a producer in that time
