Default Why are new shape scoobies cheaper to insure?

I am 22 coming up to 5 years no claims. Ive just had a quote from elephant for £1350 on a 03-plate standard uk wrx valued at 12k. I then tried an RB5 which was 2k+ and a standard w-plate uk wich was £1700 why? Also is it worth trying else where for quotes or is £1350 reasonable? Because to be fair with 5years no claims this is heart breaking.
Own a vx220 at the moment and its only £850, **** hot car as well any ideas guys ?

Cheers

I was once told by an insurer, that a more expensive car is less likely to be thrashed and abused to the point that you throw it off the road. Once a car comes into a certain price bracket, that means it can be bought by people who may not look after their car as they would a new car. It also means that the younger driver can now afford to buy it. Again more chance of crashing it.
This was years ago when my renewal for my 3 year old 106GTI was up, and I was thinking of changing it. It cost less insurance on a brand new Clio 172 than it did the 106GTI. Purerly cos the 106GTI had reached that price bracket. I bought the Clio. If only I'd known !!!

Had the same myself when I was looking at Scoobies, new age cheaper despite higher insurance rating.

Main reason likely to be that the claims statistics for the different models are different: classics have been on the road much longer, net calue of claims likely to be much higher, thus premimums greater! RB5 is also a special edition = more money, especially if its the PPP equiped one as it's then a modified car!

Insurance companies are also not fooled by Subaru's PR, they know full well the classic is faster than the new age cars (though only nominally so than the latest blobeyes).

They are cheaper because they have better alarms fitted as standard. Also they have dead locks on the 03MY and newer.

More expensive so it keeps them out of the hands of the younger drivers, meaning less claims on newer cars, less claims= cheaper insurance.
