Question

Insurance renewal just in from Bennetts Elite:

1996 Subaru Legacy RS twin turbo
Parked on drive overnight in rural Scotland
35,000 miles per year inc commuting
9+ years NCD
No points, no convictions
Self (48yo IT Manager) + Wife (43yo NHS manager)

Last year's premium £559 (£250 xs); this year's £623 (same xs). Should I bite their hand off, or is it worth phoning around?

Regards,
Brian

Sounds good to me, always phone around though you never know 1/2 hour on the phone could save you £50 (depends how much you get paid an hour whether it is worth while of course).

Reckon you've got to try Admiral, I'm 36 have a 98 STi, clean licence, no claims, garaged overnight in Shetland - £550, just renewed. Also phoned today about my other half's renewal, phoned a few and no-one could touch Admiral. Its my 2nd year with them and although it did go up, it was only by the 20% everyone else increased by. Let me know how you get on.

Kevin.

Renewed with Bennets Elite 3 weeks ago.

Got a cheaper quote, then phoned them and they beat it by another £20.

Well worth the cost of the phone call.

Thanks guys. Results to date:

carsource.co.uk (Willsons) - £625 with £500 xs
Admiral - said they couldn't get close to these quotes, referred me to:
Hillhouse Hammond - who said they don't do imports

I'll try another couple before I concede.

Ok, I give up. I've tried another three companies and it looks like everything ends up in Norwich Union's hands (which is where my current policy is). I couldn't get below £623, got a couple within a couple of pounds of that and a couple about £60 dearer (which appear to be based on the same premium, but not giving a 10% discount for the Cat1 alarm/immobiliser). Back with Bennetts for another year
