Question

Probably sounds funny me asking this when I'm an insurance man myself (Working with RUM*) but why do all the insurers hate the new Scoob WRX ?! I know that this has come up many a time before on the bbs but even now that they have been out for a good 3 months the insurers don't appear to have altered there opinions.

Scuse me as I'm fairly new to all this but..

As far as I know, the spec is very similar to the outgoing model (215bhp, 2.0 litre flat four engine, 215lb/ft torque etc..) but its slower, safer, stronger and has the same security measures fitted.

Have all the insurance companies out there been stung severely by the old Scoob at its bargain basement group 17 so much that they want a few extra pennies in the kitty when insuring the new one ?? Or worse still, do they not want to insure them at all if they can help it ??

It does seem that many insurers do still get them mixed up with Japanese imports and some think that they kick out over 250bhp (do they ?!).. One insurer told me yesterday that whilst they are happy to quote on vehicles from groups 1 to 20, they point blank refuse to quote for the new WRX. All in all, I think that group 19 seems way too high as I know many other people do.. does anyone know of an insurer that has them grouped more realistically and doesn't want a £500 or a £1000 excess !?! After all..it hardly a Ferrari is it (not until the STI arrives....)

How have any of you owners of the new WRX out there got on ?!

Cheers,

John

Jerry,

I have an new WRX and i too had lot's of problems getting a reasonable quote. It seems a little stupid that i can a modified pre-MY01 insured for 30% LESS than a standard WRX !

You should check out the ABI web site as they quote the new car there as 19 and the old 17.

Andy

PS - In the end i went with NFU as they were the cheapest i could get.

Cool

Try Direct Line....£350 excess and the best rate I could find, after a lot of phone calls and tedious repetition of details. It paid off though. They were £100 cheaper than the NFU quote I got as recommended by the scooby dealer. You're right...they all now see it as a bad risk, and its getting difficult to insure reasonably.

My feeling is that Direct Line were so much cheaper than the others that they must be a bit delayed in re-aligning. Get in there now while you can

I've a new one and initially had the same problems. Cheapest was Tesco's Car Insurance, who for me were 10% less than Direct Line, who in turn were half that of anyone else, for the reasons you mention.

Question

Nobody`s actually quoted a figure so far, why? How much have you been quoted? re-age,N.C.B.,district etc.
Insurance quotes varying by £100 or more is not unusual.

I've ordered a new shape WRX and got quotes on the following basis. I'm 25, 6 years full no claims protected, no accidents, claims or convictions, fairly good area, inc tracker and restricted mileage.

Lowest quote from several brokers (excluding Directline who have the wrong insurance rating - group 17) for new model impreza wrx (group 19) £1700 inc £500 excess, highest was £3000 inc £800 excess. On the old model I was getting quotes of £900.

That's why I have had to import so that I can put the saving towards the insurance.

The things we pay for the joys of owning a decent car.

Insurance nightmare!! -
Picking car up friday after ordering, thinking no problems for insurance - age 23, 5yrs no claims, no points, no crashes etc. Best quote £2140!! - dealer didn't tell me that a prodrive conversion on the car takes it up four groups!!!
Never mind!
Insurance must be bad though, subaru main dealers won't let me test drive so i had to be a passenger!!!!
Still bought it though after a blast up the M62!!! Regards.....

Has anyone tried saying "Impreza turbo,U.K.2001 model"? i.e. leave out the WRX bit? or have the insurers used the new model as an excuse to re-group the car?
Give Greenlight a try on

Endsleigh RIP OFF!

Just been back on to endsleigh over insurace (see last post) after giving all bank details etc, final price was £2470, after queries that previous quote on mon was £2140 i was informed that due to direct debit payments over 11 mths there woulde be an interest charge of £330!!!!!! This is 17.09% of the balance due, a bank loan is cheaper!!
Overall i can either pay the lump sum of £2140 or cancel loosing £70 for my troubles. I aint got the car yet!!! To top it all off the insurance is with Norwich Union who i still have my old policy with!!

Re request for quotes. Tesco's was £770 fully comp for me (36) & wife (39). Full no claims. 01WRX no mods. I've 6pts she 3 & an accident. Live in a relativly low risk area. Cheaper than direct line by £100. in addition 3rd pty cover on any car - so you can try your mates legally! 3days free automatic european cover - good for boose trips.
