Default Quick insurance question...

Any voluntary excess on a policy is refunded for a no-fault claim, right? Just want to make sure this is true in all policies.

Oh...and also..If I get a car repaired by my Insurance company do I have the right to view the original invoice/cost of repair?

Generally, if it is definitely not your fault, the third party's insurance company will organise for your car to be repaired and provide you with a replacement vehicle. At the end of the day they are paying for it - not your insurance company.

Jen, in some cases they do but that's at your option and in a case recently the liability was not straightforward so had to go through 8 months of contesting at which point the other party's insurers admitted liability.

The reason for the invoice is because of problems I've had with a repairer. They didn't repair the car properly and I strongly suspect they also claimed parts and work on the invoice that they didn't actually do.

The answer to the first question is: AFAIK you still have to pay the excess. My car before last was written off when someone drove into the back of it in a stationary queue of traffic. The insurers (AXA IIRC) accepted it was entirely the other drivers fault, but when they paid out the value of the vehicle MINUS the excess.

I've checked now and it seems you do get the voluntary and compulsory excess back. Meridian, you should have got your excess back afterwards from the other driver's insurance. If you have legal cover then your insurance company get it back for you otherwise you just write/phone the other insurer and get it back direct.
