Default Quick reply plz...

My friend was rather drunk and was threatening to drive home. So i drove him home on saturday night in his car, i was pulled over by the police and given 7 day producer. It's my understanding that i am insured for such things under 3rd party, if i am fully comp on my own policy. Is this true or am i in trouble?

Thanks for advice.

Depends, check your policy, if it says you are covered to drive other vehicles then you should be ok but it doesn't automatically come with fully comp, think you have to be over 25 etc etc, all depends on the insurance company

Good luck

check your policy ASAP. As gljam has already said, you generally don't get the 'Drive other cars' clauses unless you are 25, you can get it before that but I had to pay a small premium when I was 20.

Get the policy document out.

Yes indeedy you are matey - I'm covered with Tesco's on 3rd Party automatically so I'm pretty sure they're not going to have a seperate policy for you (even though you are ugly)?

And who was the pissed bugger - more to the point who's car???

Does it matter - you throught you were insured because everyone says if you are fully comp you can drive another car 3rd party. You did it with the best intentions. You never read the small print.

There is nothing you can now do if you are not insured.

I have just been through this with my son - all his mates think they are insured. His policy states he has a restriction on driving other cars, just because he is under 25, even though he has 7 years no claims, protected bonus and has had a 97 classic insured for nearly two years. At renewal last year his insurance company told us he was insured 3rd party for other cars. It was only when the policy arrived and I was reading through it that I realised he was not - at that precise moment in time he was out in our 01 WRX !! - DO NOT BELIEVE EVERYTHING THEY SAY ON THE PHONE - check the policy. My policy will not insure anyene under 30.

Indeed that excuse is not acceptable in the eyes of the law, but what a Jen_m followed with is sensible, check your policy/schedule etc..

As they say, ignorance is no defence.

It amazes me that people just assume if they are FC they are automatically covered tp, its a condition of your policy, not a right!
