Estimated mileage (again). Useful to anyone doing >20K miles pa
First thing I should say is that I drive a Legacy and not an Impreza, however this could be useful to someone doing high mileage.
My renewal was due recently. Direct Line were wanting over £500 for Comprehensive with protected NCD, business use class 1, and up to 30K miles a year. As this was an increase of about 10% on last year, I trawled various websites.
Halifax had an interesting approach to estimated mileage. The "Mileage" field had loads of options like 12001-13000, 130001-14000, and so on. The top option was >20000, so I clicked this. As the premium then came out at £455, I went on and bought online.
When the paperwork came through, the estimated mileage was shown as 21500. I phoned them and asked why this was the figure as I had clicked the "Over 20K" option and had not stated anything more specific. The reply was, "The screen shows a mileage of between 21000-22000, so it's on the policy as 21500". So, I said that I was more likely to be doing in excess of 25K and didn't want my mileage limited. I made it clear that I wasn't pleased if they were going to ask me for more money as the website was happy to accept "Over 20K" as an estimated mileage without showing a warning that I should contact them for an individual quote as the automated system couldn't handle the details I'd entered.
The operator put the "over 25K" details in and told me that there would be no increase in the cost and that a new insurance certificate would be issued.
Result is that I now have an (effectively) unlimited mileage policy as the insurance certificate says "Over 25000 miles pa.". I have business use cover, a protected NCD, AND have a courtesy car guaranteed (which Direct Line wanted extra money for), and have saved over £50.
Don't know how they will be for the more "exotic" machinery, but if you're doing the miles they could be worth a look.

Tried getting a quote for a MY00 Impreza Turbo and they will not cover it even if I lie and say I'm 55!(36 really). Nothing high risk about me so I reckon they won't cover any Impreza Turbo.
