Default Which carries least loading, points or a ban?

Got nicked for doing 98.44 on the M4 on Saturday, no arguments, I was naughty and got caught.

I'm outside the fixed penalty allowance, so I'm waiting to receive a summons.

I only use the car for getting to and from work and visiting mates but can get to work by bike or bus if I have to.

I'm wondering which do insurance companies look least favourably on, loads of points or a short ban.

It looks like the usual for that speed on the motorway is 4 - 6 points and £150 - £300 pound fine, but I may still receive a ban.

I'm sure I won't have much choice in the matter but should I go all out to avoid the ban?

I have a clean license (for about 6 weeks anyway!).

you would be best to plead guilty, say your are really sorry for your lasp in concentration, (previously a clean), but tell them you have to have a car to get to and from work and you can not use public transport.

would should just get some points.

Nice one. I got 6 points and £250 fine in 1996, for doing 99.

No you aren't. Not if they clocked you at 98.44 mph. You need to be doing more than 30mph over the limit to get a ban, all you should get is a £60-00 fine and 3 points, not something insurance companies usually bother about to be honest.

Do you have Legal Expense Insurance with your insurance cover, if so, phone up the legal hotline and speak to them, alternatively if you have AA or RAC cover they used to offer the same thing.

Whatever you do, act quickly and don't accept what the police tell you. They are normally pretty good but can be a bit enthusiastic if its been a long day <g>

No

Over 90 is usually a summons - although some are lenient and allow up to 95....

If you get away with £60 - go and buy a lottery ticket as at that speed you should be going to court..... and I'd expect about a £200 fine plus £60 costs...... pretty low for a clean license

LV did not load my policy for previous bans........

A 3 month ban for 110 is very harsh..... depends on previous history - If I had a clean license I would expect maybe a couple of weeks ban max at that speed. I was court doing 140 on the motorway and got a 3 month ban in 1997

But I was also court for another incident doing 108 when I had 9 points on the license (got 6 points a £1000 fine, plus costs and no ban...............) - but then I was court a few months later which resulted in a TT99 and 6 month ban.......

I was caught on camera doing 96 MPH on the variable speed limit cameras when they were not on. I got 3 points and £60 fine. I was very lucky as I stamped on the brakes on the first flash, otherwise I would have been done at 116MPH. Since then I have re-thought the way I drive.

Thanks for your replies people, to those that got no points and a ban how has that affected your insurance?

Absolute effing illegitimates!
Just gone to pay the fine now they're saying it's £450! I still haven't received the paperwork from the court so I can't check, but have to pay within 14 days of the 8th, that's Monday.
