Help! Need an STI but can't get cheap insurance
#1
I am about to opt out of my company car scheme and move from my current Turbo to a shiny new STI. However, insurance is being a real pain. Best quote I have had so far is from Tesco @ £2000 which seems massive. I have tried Adrian Flux and they say about £3000. £2000 is still too much. Any pointers or have I got no chance. I'm only 27 which I guess is a major issue here....

Alot of companies will do schemes to cater for this, they will give you a certain percentage discount, for the amount of years claim free on your company car. A letter from your company will be required as proof. The £2000 price does'nt seem that unreasonable considering your age and going to a group 20 car, but....I may be wrong, try some of these numbers:

Also try Norwich Union (through a broker not direct), they should be able to convert your company car claim free years into years not
percentage.
Good luck

I have tried a few different options and companies. I tried Schofield and they quoted £1800 for a WRX and won't quote for an STI as I'm under 28. I then tried L&V and they won't insure under 30s on the WRX so the STI will be the same (even though they didn't have it on their list)!
Looks like it will have to be a WRX with PPP rather than STI8....

www.belldirect.com Insure my son who is 28 for £799 (it went down £50 by including me as a named driver) on an STi8. He was previously insured with them on an STi7 for ONE week before claiming a total loss after a no blame accident!
I am also insured with them on an STi8 for £567 but then again I am old(ish)

Reffro, you're right. Whilst having a scoob as company car is a perk I do use it for lots of miles (~20k yr) so this does alter things a little on the insurance front. Still £799 is really cheap for an STi8 @ 28yrs. Belldirect appear to use the same web-based quote as Elephant. They quote (online) at ~£2000 which is the same as Tesco.

£799 ? bl**dy hell thats a good deal. I'm 26 and with Bell Direct and I'm being charged £1400 and thats with full no claims!
I do use my car for business though and do relatively high mileage but still.....

Guys, not being funny but before I had a small accident (hit 3 deer!!!) I was being covered fully comp on an sti2 MY96 at age 23 for 700 quid with 5 years ncd.
Unfortunately, due to my slight mishap, my premium has doubled.
Isn't it amazing how your location can count for so much? I stay about 15 miles from inverness and am AMAZED that you guys have to pay so much!!
