Tesco renewals beware
#1
Wifey received a letter from Tesco Insurance today, touting for new custom. I suddenly realised that i didn't receive a renewal notice from Tesco for my car (due on 1st March). I checked my bank statements to see whether the direct debit was still ongoing but it wasn't. (Lloyds TSB who i have used previously, automatically did this unless informed otherwise).
I rang their hotline and indeed i have been driving around for the last six weeks un-insured
I explained that i was most disspleased with not receiving a renewal but they just said tough ****, the 14day acceptance has lapsed and you didn't accept so you will be treated as a new customer.
I phoned L&V but they said because i had 5 years no claims on a company car and only 1 year with Tesco they would only accept the 1 year from Tesco as they hold the company car letter of disclosure (WTF). So their premium was £671.00
Tesco said they would have let me have the premium at £596.00 but because i didn't accept the none existant renewal notice "tough ****" and i shall have to pay £686.00.
Okay some might say you have lost £90.00 but saved a month and a half's premium say £75.00.
Thats not the point, what if i had crashed in the last six weeks i would have been up **** creek.
So, moral is, dont expect a renewal notice from Tesco coz they dont send them and if your with TSB at least they think of your welfare when renewing, they will always credit back your premium if you cancel within the first month of your next years premium.
Oh, PS Thanks for one hour on the phone consisting of utter sh1te Tesco it was a much appreciated Saturday morning in our household. Knowing you had me over a barrel was very amusing to you you tw@ts

Edited to further add: MY02 WRX no mods has tracker retrieve and is garaged over night. £400.00 excess. Fankoo

I have been with them 2 years now and receved a renewal notice from them about a month before hand. I have also made a clame from them with no probs, can't fault them. Must have just been some sort of error in your case mate??

Will check mine! Problem with big insurance companies is it depends who is dealing with your paperwork. Some are good and do there job properely some are muppets and f**k it up also giving the company a bad name.

You'd expect them to be more sympathetic than that. when I got my renewal through I swear it said that if nothing was heard by the renewal date, it would automatically renew.

Yeah I am with Tesco as well. I’m a 23 year old driving a modified RB5, and from the 10 companies I went to for insurance quotes, 8 told me to pi55 off and Budget gave me a very competitive £3899 (NOT!!). Tesco were the only company to give me a sensible quote. I pay £990 with 4 years NCD. Can’t really fault them
