EU Imports - Been Refused Insurance

Enquired about changing my current Insurance on a UK Spec MY 94 to an 'Imported from Holland' UK Spec Car, and was refused cover.
Is this the Norm ?
I did try to explain that is was not a Jap import but they were sure they would not cover a 'Dutch' import.

it seems unusual based on my own experience. I have a dutch import MY00 and I always say its an exact uk spec euro import and the insurers are usually fine with that.
