I'VE GOT MY HEART SET ON ONE OF THESE CARS BUT THE ONLY PROBLEM IS INSURANCE,I'VE SEEN A 96UK CAR(£7500,NAFF INTERIOR,GOES WELL)AND A 96 JAP WRX(£6000 SMART INTERIOR,AIR CON,GOES REALLY WELL)THE UK CAR IS£480 COMPARED TO£900 FOR THE IMPORT,I REALLY FANCY THE IMPORT BUT I DON'T WANT TO PAY THAT KIND OF MONEY FOR INSURANCE BUT I DON'T TO BUY THE UK CAR WITH THEM NAFF SEATS,I'VE TRIED ALL PEOPLE MENTIONED ON THIS SITE.
IS OWNING A SCOOBY REALLY WORTH THAT MONEY?
P.S WHEN I LOOK AT THESE CARS,IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD SPECIFICLLY LOOK FOR?

Why don't you look for a decent spec UK car instead? Insurance is high unles you shop around. Beware Jap imports; more and more insurance companies won't touch them, which is a shame.
If you really want a Jap import get the insurance sorted first BEFORE you buy.

Buff,
alot of this depends on your age, under 25 and you will be screwed with an import (or a uk one for that matter) then look into servicing, twice yearly for both cars (or 7.5k which ever is first) and they NEED to be serviced this often, if not it will cost alot in the long run
Uk cars can be taken to UK dealers and parts can be purchased over the counter (or serviced there and then), Jap imports can only be serviced by speciallists (but you should still be able to buy some parts from the dealers, ie oil filters etc).
Give some more details about your age etc and then we can give more info about which insurance co's

i'm 31,6 years no claims, clean license and parked on the drive with a cat1 alarm/imobiliser.
the cost of running it doesn't bother me but paying £900 pound on insurance does but i am coming round after the initial shock and hopefully i'll have a scooby on my drive by the weekend.
does anyone know if a darknavy blue is an original colour as i haven't seen one before.

Dark Navy Blue is an original colour, yes. Most people refer to them as DBM (dark blue mica). Can't remember ever seeing a Jap import in that colour mind you, just the UK/euro cars. Good choice of colour though IMHO
Good luck in your search - you won't be disappointed. Have you tried Bell Direct for your insurance ? They were cheaper than 900 for me for a '98 imported Sti, and I was 30 then.

think yourself lucky mate, mines nearly twice that for my 94 wrx.
Had a traders policy for 3 years, and haven't got any claims discount!
Insurance has deffinately gone up loads I paid £700 for a golf gti when I was 18, I get the feeling i'd be lucky to pay that now and i'm nearly 26!
Just think of it as you'll be paying £17.00 a week! the pleasure should far outway the pain!
