Insurance For an Aussie
#1
My girlfriend moved over here to live with me just over a year ago, and she pays ridiculous insurance (about £800) for a 1.4 Polo because she is classed as having had a UK licence for 1 year, and no no claims.
It's all down to the questions they ask, they ask how long you've had a full UK licence, not how long you've been driving (>15 years in her case) and how long you've been UK resident.
Anyone know any firms that would take into account previous experience/licence and give a reasonable quote?

Has she changed her license to be a UK license? If so the licenses are exchangable (well at least the New Zealand license was in my case) and when you got the UK one back it should say it was issued on the date your original license was issued overseas and therefore most insurance companies will except it at face value. This certainly worked for me with elephant.co.uk.

My wife is an American, she had to pass the test in the UK, however directline took the driving experience from when she passed the test in the USA.
When she first came over & was driving on her US license in the UK most insurers wouldn't insure her or stacked the premiums.
