wrx boy,
you will be spoilt if you drive a Scooby at only 17!!!
Seriously - buy a heap for a few hundred pounds and have loads of fun with it. No worries about insurance, dents, servicing and warranty, traffic light GPs or whatever. It will break down, you will get your hands dirty, but the memories will be priceless!!
And that way, you will really appreciate a Scooby (or even a lesser car) when you eventually get one!!

I agree, get a run about for the first year and if you want an impreza, you would have saved the £5000 from this year from insurance so buy one next year.
Also, getting insured under your parents name is very risky. if you are the main driver and get caught, insurance is void. Not very nice.........
If you are serious, tesco is your best bet. im 21 and tesco quoted me but no one else really did. i got quoted £8000 from one company! Sorry mate

intresting sugestions,
although the impreza will still be my parents and i will only occasionally drive it hence i will still buy myself another small cheap car like an old pug or something to built up my ncb.
p.s - when i am 19 could I get quoted less than 4k for an impreza under my own name.

Don't make the mistake of blowing all your capital when your 17. You just end up paying a ridiculous amount on insurance. Insted, get a cheaper car, save the 5k a year till your 21, then you will have 4 years no claims and 20k - then you will be sorted!
You know it sounds good

its ok peeps i'v decided to wait for my imprezza untill a few years .
and i'm probly gonna get a civic 1.5lsi coupe and replicate it like the black civic in the fast and the furious, what do ya think ?
and how much would be a good price to pay for that insurance wise under my own name, fc or third party ?
or should i get it insured under my parents name ?

Hi Scoobyster,
If you are talking about Co-op Insurance (I presume) I just looked to get a quote for our Megablade and one of their few conditions of when they can't insure people is if there are any mods...

Ive got my Saxo insured with CIS and I have over 9k's worth of mods declared, they didnt hammer me either because they are mainly body mods but the difference maybe that I was already with them when I had the mods done

Hi.
Do you know what group your Civic will be? I'd guess you're looking at about £4k f/c, and not a lot less for 3rd party. I got quotes of £3500-£6000 on my (group 10) Impreza 1.6 in November when I passed my test (at 17). Instead of that it's my mum's car and is insured for any driver for £1100 with CIS - they're good about mods too I believe, not tested that though.
At renewal time I'm hoping it will be possible to get a decent quote and it become my car. I know right now I could get it for £2k, being 18 and having done Pass Plus (equivalent to 1yrs NCB) - hopefully it'll be less when I've had my licence for a year and I'm planning to do the IAMs advanced test and now have a Clifford security system.
If you really really want to be on the WRX, persuade your parents to get it on a lease scheme instead of buying. They sometimes allow anyone of any age to be on the insurance for no extra . That's how the NHS's scheme works anyway, I'm on my parent's Impreza 2.0 like that and a few friends are on their parents' too.
Hope that helps.

Editted to say: If I had my time over again I'd buy a classic car of some description, I briefly looked into the classic insurance cos and found most required 21/25+, but perhaps exceptions could be found. I think it'd be much cooler to have something that bit diferent, says "I know my cars" far better than a boy racer Corsa or whatever - but that's just my opinion.
