What's the deal with the ncb if you have a smack and it isn't protected. Do you lose the lot or only some of it?

I lost 2 years of mine last year, not protected and my fault, Think this is about average.

Depends on what it says in the policy but I'd agree that 2 years worth of entitlement per claim is probably the norm.

Usually yes. If you get your excess back etc because it was someone else's fault and his insurer's paying your uninsured losses you'll probably not get cut back. But otherwise (say someone hits you in a car park and drives off) you would get NCB reduced - it's a no-claims bonus not a no-blame on.
