How Do Ins Companies Check ur NCB??
#1
When you ring up for insurance and they ask about ur NCB, and you say you have 3 yrs NCB (For Example). How do they check if you actually have any NCB??
Is a record kept on a national database?

They can ask you to send them proof of your NCD, but the insurance companies do share details so I guess they could also check with your previous insurer

becouse of the data protection act all your current insurer can do is ask your previous insurer if the details you have given them are true
they cant actually ask the previous insurance company how many years you had
so it is down to you to get the facts right
a lot of the time they will only check after a claim
so you probably allready know honesty is the best bet

Proof is fairly easy....we ask you for the ORIGINAL proof of No Claims Discount from your previous insurance company.
This is normally in the form of your previous renewal notice. We can also phone your previous broker/insurer to obtain this information as well. They can confirm this over the phone to us at our request. However they will only release the original "hardcopy" to you (the policyholder) at the postal address detailed on your policy.
At the time of the quote, when you are asked how much bonus you have...and as you stated you advised 3 years...then that is what the quote would be based on....however, if you then instructed the broker/insurer to effect cover and you failed to send proof (as above) to them, the insurer would then reissue on a gross (i.e. NIL bonus) basis, until proof was obtained by one of the above methods.
If it turned out you had more then 3 years....your premium would be reduced accordingly....if less....then obviously the premium would be increased...
Hope this helps...???!!!
