Insurance Shock
#1
Hi folks......
I've just received my renewal notice from Tesco......£1200 for a UK PPP Turbo......last year's premium was £850!!!!!!
Worryingly, I found that Privilege was also relatively high.....£995!
Seems to me that all this car-jacking malarchy is making insurers a bit nervous!
Would you believe that Schofield Insurance were the worst of the lot......almost £1400.....but they did put me in touch with Green Light who will insure me for £850, with a £325 excess......
Relieved.....

DBM,
How interesting? Tesco categorically DO NOT insure UK Subaru Imprezas with a PPP. If you describe the bits and pieves to them separately they will consider it, but if you tell them to hand it over to their underwriters, they will not touch a car with a PPP!! I would not like to have my PPP insured where the only listed mods are an exhaust change and 10% more BHP.
If it ever gets stolen or written off, insurance companies will try anything to get out of paying.
You need to make sure that the insurance company has ALL of the details - Remapped ECU, Exhaust changes and replacement IC piping. If they don't understand any of these mods you must get it referred to their underwritters for definite approval. In the end, you will be the one who loses out in the event of a large claim.
Try Greenlight, they rock!

C'est possible. Seen a few tasty ones up this way, and just been for a blat up to Manchester in an RB5. Fudging amazing. Bit out of my price range though, an oldish WRX more my cup of monetary tea.

Sorry to disagree, but i have a UK WRX (MY01) with declared PPP which is comprehensively insured with Tesco. They came up with the best quote for me - GBP850 last October.
So they do insure UK Subaru Imprezas with a PPP!!

Boomer,
Was your car registered with the PPP?
That was the sticking point for mine. I had my PPP fitted when my MY00 hit two years of age. The following happened:
1) I said I had a year 2000 standard UK turbo.
2) I explained that I had a PPP fitted.
3) She read out all of the variations on the database and nothing applied.
4) So, I gave her a list of the alterations.
5) For an uprated exhaust and a remapped ECU (<10% bhp) I was told that I would have to pay an extra £145 fully comp, protected NCB.
6) After thinking 'Excellent' I then mentionned the IC piping change - she said, 'I'm sorry but I will have to refer this to the underwritter'
7) Two days later, they came back and said that they will not touch my car if it has been modified with a PPP.
Maybe it has something to do with it being an MY00, or maybe they think that I am a lunatic because I have applied the PPP two years after purchasing the car!! I had exactly the same problem with Admiral!
I think it has something to do with whether the car was purchased 'from new' with the PPP already fitted.
These are just my own experiences, maybe they just didn't like me.
To top it all off, I'm 31 with 7 years NCB fully protected, no fault claims and no speeding fines - go figure, I'm obviously a ridiculously high risk??!

Wuss,
my car was a brand new UK WRX, and the PPP was fitted two weeks after delivery (at the 1000 mile service).
When i enquired about insurance, from the start i said that it would have a PPP, and Tesco not only knew what i was talking about (unlike most of the other insurance companies) but even included the details of the mods ("Chipped Management Systems, Exhaust Change - Performance Upgrade by Up To 10%") on the schedule.
In conversations with them, it seems that they are much happier with the MY01 with regards to security (especially versus older models and imports), which might have made a difference.
As i had beeen driving a company car for the previous 19 years, none of the insurance companies i tried gave me a NCD, despite the fact that i haven't made a claim (apart from two windscreens) in 11 years However, Tesco gave me an "introductory discount" down to GBP850, so i'll see what happens at renewal time
