Looking to get an sti before the end of the year, so I thought I'd run some quotes through tescos online quote generator..

So, little old me, no claims, 5years+ NCB, no convictions.. 24yrs old. driveway parked at night. Proactive tracking system on the car. All valued at £12k for consistency. NCB Protected & Legal Cover. £100 excess & £150 Voluntary excess.

MY99 UK Turbo - 953
MY99 RB5 - 953
MY98 Terzo - 1178
MY99 WRX - 1142
MY99 Sti - 1442
MY99 22B - 1442 ( Just out of interest! )

All models are 4 door versions ( except 22b obviously ).
Why on earth is a Terzo so expensive ? especially compared to an RB5. Really looking for an Sti, but if I can't get the premium down I was thinking of a terzo or an RB5 ( but these are a tad too expensive.. ). Expected the WRX to be cheaper than the Sti and the 22B more expensive, but maybe this is something to do with the power rating of the engine ( i.e. all being rated the same? ) But that doesnt bare out with the RB5 vs UK vs Terzo as AFAIK RB5 has 240, Terzo & UK are 208 ?

Tried garaging the Sti, came out £20 cheaper. Wonder why some insurers insist on this ?

Sti Type R exactly the same as a 4door Sti.

Questions:

Has anyone found being 25 dropped their insurance ( I altered my details to make myself 1 year older.. made £50-70 difference ) ?

How much lower do you think I could get Sti insurance for.. Obviously its still going to be in 4 figures.. but £1200 ? £1100 ?

Would it be worth waiting until I'm 25 to get quotes from other companies who wont insure under 25s on imports or are they uikely to be uncompetitive anyway ?

I've got a 5.5% loan arranged for the car, so money is burning a hole in my pocket.. But if I can save a worthwhile amount by waiting until I am 25 ( in September ) I will do. On the face of it its not likely..

Any help gratefully received!
