06 STI Kenwood headunit / changer to MP3
I bought a cable that changes the Kenwwod changer output to a phono lead so I can plug my Iphone into it but I can't seem to get it working? Everything is plugged in but there is no select for changer and it doesn't seem to pick my Iphone up.
Has anyone else had trouble with this and does anyone know away round it?
Thanks

According to someone on the forresters forum they say after 2005 the cd changer output/input is no longer connected internally to the headunit itself, can anyone confirm this? Has anyone got a changer connected to 2006 wrx sti stereo or similar?

So if you have the original Kenwood radio this is the deal:
The cable that plugs into the rear of the head unit does naff all, the software on the headunit stops it from working, no way around this.
There are, however two alternatives.
1) some guy (possibly in the US) did a thread on how he dismantled the head unit and after much hacking and soldering made it work.
2) buy a kenwood kca-i500 - it doesn't have a phono adapter but does have a iPod connector for all but the very most recent iPhones. I found a used one on gumtree for about £20 and went down this route. It is pretty basic however and the iPod is controlled by the headunit and cannot be adjusted manually, so if you want album number 20 then be prepared to press the forward button on the head unit 20 times rather than scrolling quickly through your iPhone / iPod.
From all the research I have done there is no alternative if you want to keep the OEM Kenwood headunit.
