Default Pioneer AppRadio Thoughts

Hi folks,

Halfords are currently doing the below radio for half price, it doesn't have a disc slot and is really only for the iPhone user, which I am and all my music is on it.

Just wondering if anyone had one and their thoughts on it.

£150 seems ok considering you can use sat nav on it too with your phone connected.

I currently have a Sony single din Bluetooth unit but fancy a double din for appearance really.

Cheers

Never owned one but I've fitted a couple into a few vw campers, they are a decent bit of kit in all fairness and for that price you won't go far wrong, you won't get much better for the same money if your I phone orientated, just like using a bigger I phone really but its legal and pioneer stuff is normally spot on

Thinking of getting one tomorrow quite like the you can use your iPhone features on there and don't have to carry cds in the car

If you use your phone for most things bud they are a pretty decent setup, your phone integrates so to speak with the radio so effectively your using the features of the phone.
I believe you can do most features of your phone through it, also easier if you have children as you can just stick a film on your phone and play it through the stereo, I'm not sure if it has a video out tho, to power other screens in the vehicle.
Tbh for that price I may consider buying one and mount the ecutek monitor on the top of the dash, didn't really want to do it, but my radio is playing funny buggers, the only thing putting me off is if I decide to change mobiles at the end of my contract them I'm stuck with a radio that's not compatible with anything else, unless you just leave an iPod connected I suppose or your old phone, but then you won't be able to get the hands free working as it only pairs with iPhones I believe, although I have never looked any further in to them as I've only ever fitted them for people, but what I did see I liked, rather easy to use tbh and a convenience more than anything else if your majorly phone orientated like my self

Believe its not compatible with the 5 although there is another which is but retails for around £300.

The 1 in question still seems good value for money more positive reviews then negative

The only thing it doesn't have which I want in a head unit is DAB.

I don't know what Pioneer are playing at these days, but they only make one DAB head unit, and thats a nasty mixtrax model with the cheap/tacky rotating thingy around the volume control.

And not one head unit manufacturer makes a unit that is properly compatible with the diversity aerial systems found in VAGs/Vauxhalls/BMWs etc. The aftermarket adapters are hopeless.

my STI actually had one inside it when i bought it

They run WinCE , with a front GUI.

I ended up jailbreaking mine . Using the Microsd slot on the front you can run another media player from it and use music from the card , you can also run a ripped/modified version of IGO .

I ended up selling it and am now running a ipad inside the subaru.

Which one did you buy? The 150 quid one doesn't work with Android as far as I know, one of the main reasons I'm not buying it. iPhone only I believe. For the cheaper model anyway.

Edit: Ignore me! Should have read rest of thread!

I have just installed one in mine too, seems to work great. Don't freeze, Sat-Nav works a treat.....i think its a bargain.

I bought the £250 SPH-DA100 though, as come with a £50 voucher and needed to get new cleaning bits, so made sense.

Good piece of kit for the money mate. Fixed a relay to mine so videos work without the need of the handbrake switch. Now the only problem I have to fix is the passenger side speakers arnt working!!

Anyone have any thoughts why this could be?

I was thinking about connecting it to just a switch, has the relay avoided this? if so, how?

I have no idea about side speakers, mine work, although need upgrading now as sound crap!

Mine do too although need to find out what I've done to make them stop working on one side.

The relay is like an automatic switch mate so you hear the click once the unit comes on which makes the unit think the handbrake has been realeased. I'm not the best with wiring although managed it with very few hiccups lol
