About to fit my VDO Dayton MS5000. Anybody know how to ensure the TV stays on whilst driving, so the wife can watch on long journeys?!

Thanks.

Scott

If it's anything like the Alpine TV head units, there's a wire which gets connected to the handbrake connection. This goes to earth when the handbrake's on (so lighting that cute little bulb in the dash.)

On the Alpine, all I've done is permanently ground that wire and I have access to all the h/u's functions at all times. Assuming it's the same on the VDO, just wire it to the -'ve connection for the h/u.

Happy viewing

He meant to say that obviously it is illegal to have the tv working whilst driving. You wouldn't do that would you.Get a rear flip down screen instead.

Oh yeah - forgot to mention that. Obviously, I wouldn't DREAM of doing it!!!!

Truth be told, I'm not using mine for telly stuff, just so I can access the CD-titling options and things like that. But, you're right - it's illegal to have a motion video picture, of any form, in the driver's field of view.

So, don't be seen doing it

Is it?

My understanding was that it wasn't illegal 'per se' - ie the charge won't be 'having a video picture' in the driver's field of view. More likely careless/dangerous driving, or without due care and attention.

From memory, the original statue had explicit mention of CRT to the current TFT displays weren't covered.

Either way, watching TV/DVD without a passenger is going to get you nicked (rightly so). Using it with a passenger may cause you problems UNLESS you angle the display towards the passenger somehow and can show you weren't distracted by it.

At night, its very obviuos who's got a screen in the car....

Does that mean all new-shape BMW 7-series drivers are going to get pulled for changing radio station on there i-Drive?
